Need Help in Choosing the Right Protractor for Cartridge Alignment for a Newbie

Thx, but I am far from an expert on the subject. There are many here at AK, and on Vinylengine who know MUCH more than me.

agreed, me too, the trick is knowing how to tell the 'posers' from the those that know what they are talking about ! ;)

and you know it's accurately to scale how?:dunno:

If you're (you're in general terms) such a cheapskate that a few dollars for a proper alignment protractor is too much then your using the wrong music medium.

You check with a ruler.
As far as buying protractors: been there, done that. I much prefer using arc protractors and I like to choose the alignment geometry myself.

and you know what it's supposed to measure how? lot of good a ruler does without a base to measure against lol.

And even if you have a base your now adding any eye deficiencies into the equation a second time, your wallet must have a slew of moth families living in it. And now let's say you find it's off, now what? Print another lol?

I worked as a machinist, I'm pretty good with a rule marked to 100ths, still prefer to spend a few dollars.

Now if using protractors only available through download I guess you have no other choice, but to recommend such to others:dunno:

What is improper about printable protractors? LOL.

LOL, are you saying LOL that those who use printable LOL protractors should not be using a turntable? LOL.

Shocked that this thread has not yet evoked pics of some piece of gear you own LOL.

Usually, those types of protractors have a reference distance on them. Say it says between 2 points or lines it should read 200mm. Just measure and adjust printer scaling.

I use the Technics overhang gauge and Ortofon alignment tool, they work well enough for me. But I do have a Technics table and Ortofon cart, I'd expect nothing less....

Yes, the Oracle protractor should work for all of your tonearms – it’s a universal alignment protractor that can be used for any tonearm to apply one of the three different two-point alignment methods they provide on the protractor. Arm length is irrelevant.
It worked fine for the 312s, thanks.
