Need help picking a 2A3 SET design....

Hi Allan ,

You might want to use this transformer that went with the chokes .It was for a pair of 2A3's push pull and the B+ should be spot on for your needs.
I would use two bridge rectifiers on the 2.0 volt winding to make two 2.5 volt DC supply's for the 2A3's fillaments . And use a 5V4 or a 80 for the B+ rectifier .

Waking up a hibernating thread....

Well, in the three years that have passed, I've been collecting 6CL6s and awaiting the proper alignment of the planets. Well, I finally asked to my buddy Dennis Had to help me out in finally making this build a reality, and he so liked the idea of a 6CL6-2A3 build that he not only said he would help me with it, but that he was going to build one for himself....:banana:

So, he is pulling strings with his suppliers and is looking at getting a couple of pairs of custom wound, matched OPTs made, and ordering the all the parts, and all I have to do is supply the cash for my set. Yeah, I know it would be much more satisfying to do it myself from scratch, but in all actuality, I'm still a neophyte, and after all, how many of us get to learn how to do things right at the side of a master of the art?

Stay tuned. I'll be trying to document this build as best as I can as it moves forward....:thmbsp:

They are supposed to sound quite nice triode strapped.

You didn't get the Transcendars? The one's I heard sounded very good with 2A3's.

I actually have the Transendars, and I also have a pair of UTC LS-63s that are supposed to be applicable to a 2A3 SE design as well. One of the things Dennis and I talked about is setting up the two builds so that we can easily audition different OPTs for comparison.
 
Well, it's only been three years.....

...since I got the idea for this build, so I suppose I can't procrastinate any longer....

All the parts except the 2.5 filament transformers are in, and they have been ordered. A 2A3 draws 2.5A on each filament, so I just decided not to skimp and will use one 2.5V transformer per tube. I've also found a spare pair of Transendar 5K SE OPTS, so I'll have to make a final decision on 3K vs 5K by Monday.

I've still been tweaking the PS, and this is where I'm at. Double pi filter design to bring ripple down to 1mV or less at both the 300V and 250V taps.
Am I way off base with this? I've gotta work this weekend, but I'm gonna start up the drill press and really dive into this build next week.

Allan and I have been cheering each other on to build this. It should sound great and has been a great learning experience. Funny how much time goes into the less glamorous things like punching holes into a piece of aluminum and hunting down parts. :yes:
