need help with new infinity IRS gamma

i made the new connections and double checked everything. the panels are in the bypass outputs and works fine. the woofers won't work at all, the only thing i hear is a 50 hz noise that gets louder when i turn the volume up. when i put the cables out there is no sound at all.
i don't get why there are 4 cables/socket in the servo and only 2 cables in the gammas. what could be wrong ?
the manual says in servo mode you could harm the speakers and amps. why ? the servo only cuts the low pass filter and the panels can handle full range.

Don't have a pair of Gamma's or Deltas, but have a few pairs of the RS-1's and to be honest I don't see the benifets of the Infinity active crossover controller, other than the novelity of it being the orginal controller. I find that using new active electronic crossovers which have selectable crossover points and selectable low frequency delay controls work much better with less problem regarding feedback from Infinity's controller which can cause feedback osillation which can damage your speakers and amps. I find the newer crossovers to not only be easier to use but sound better as well. You might ask some of the other AK'ers in here if they would work with the Gamma's or Deltas, as I have never had a pair of them but I would think if you could bi wire them and use a pair of amps then you can find what ever sound pleases you by a combination of crossover points, attenuation, and possibly some equalization.
 
you probably have the cables connected wrong somehow. the hum you're hearing could be the feedback loop that happens in that case. triple-check everything!

if i'm understanding you correctly, the reason there are only two connections at the speaker is that only two of the pins are used (see the schematic).
 
the connections should be right. red to red and black on the infinity to blue in the servo. the only problem is the cable is not shielded. so the connection on the infinty is not connected with the servo. i can connect them but i cannot shield it of course.

the blue cable is connected with the shielding in the servo but becouse i have none in the cable the drain (bare) wire on the gamma is not connected. can i connect the bare with the blue one ?

For starters,you should be using a shielded cable!
I have convidence,that is your problem!
50Hz cycle hum that gets louder as the volume is turned up,sounds like a shielding problem to me!
I did mention that in a previous post to this thread!
I would not worry about how many connections and why Infinity used a 4 pin Din plug when there are only two connections at the accelerometer.
There are alot of other variations as well if you dig deep.
The connections that you have to make are simple,which require three connections.
It doesnt matter what type of Din plugs are used,whether they are replacement ones that have a different number of pins to the original,you still retain the three connections which are required.
One other aspect that could be checked is that the RCA connections on some SC's are labelled RED as left and WHITE as right.
If you have the left accelerometer connected to the right input,you will oscillate the drivers and it will scare you.
I dont think you have done that yet!
In other words,if the left feedback (accelerometer) is passing info to the right channel and vice versa,it will not work and oscillate.
If you take some pics of the SC opened up and close up to the F/Din plugs,I will sort out your problem,by telling you which wire goes to which pin on your M/Din plug!

I am stupid on the hole servo infinity set up. i have RS-1. so all i can say is that I want to get back to belgium! brugge on xmas drinking a zot!! good luck with one nice set of infinitys. it seems that you are not afrade to do some soldering and tweeks.. you will get it worked out. the verry best of luck to you. OOOO I wish i was back in brugge!!!

I've no experience with RS-1s, but for the Gammas and Betas the servo is required for full performance. Each woofer section has one driver which has an accelerometer on the voice coil, which sends a signal back to the servo controller in the crossover, and that is compared to the ouput signal, and a correction is applied. The difference is not subtle. For example, IIRC the Delta only goes down to 28 Hz, while the Gamma goes down to 15 Hz.

I am interested in how the servo controller lowers a speaker cabinets resonate point? If I understand the purpose of the servo controller and the accerator coil in the gamma's speaker it uses the feedback to make the amp increase the current to produce the lower frequency? Is it the same as increasing db levels in lower regions so that the lower frequency's are more audioable? But how would that be a true reproduction of the signal from the source. The RS-1's uses a controller that has some sort of feedback cuircut to increase the current as well but doesn't have the accerator coil in any of the bass drivers. I have found the Infinity controller to not work as well to produce good bass output as using an aftermarket active crossover and a parametric equalizer. Why doesn't the bass speaker just produce an acurate reproduction of signal given to it from the bass without making the amp increase its output current? Is using the equalizer increasing the db levels on its controlls not doing basically the same thing, by increasing the current at the points that you set it at to increase certian levels that you select to increase outputs of certian frequency's
 
The Gamma/Beta controller compares the input signal and accellerometer signal to each other and corrects the signal, sending the corrected signal to the amp and woofer. It does this correction many times per second, extending and correcting the response and output of the woofer. It does not modify the resonance of the speaker/cabinet, it corrects for it, much like complex passive crossovers do for other drivers. The info is in the owner's manual on how the servo works, but I don't have that available to me right now.

Hmmm... my memory of the RS1 is sketchy, but IIRC, the Beta/Gamma servo doesn't work the same way the RS1 does. In the RS1 there is no accelerometer, and the amp's output gets fed back into the crossover box, then out to the speaker.

The Beta/Gamma servo is a lot more capable of changing the speaker's performance because the correction is applied based on actual movement of the woofer cones.

Anyone know more about the two systems to explain better?
 
If I could offer my thoughts and opinions on the OP's servo problem?

Listen and follow Mr. Legit's suggestions and direction with the Infinity accelerometer-based servo systems.
Trust me, I'm pretty sure at this point, he knows the circuitry and system very well. There are many of us that own and have direct experience that can offer help and anecdotal support, but Legit is in-the-know a bit deeper.:yes:

i take you very serious, and i see that you have much experience with the servo. i didn't have the chance to buy shielded cables yet. i don't think there are stores open at these christmas times.

for the moment i use the pioneer A-91 in delta mode. the A-91 and M-90 are the best sounding. the onkyo m5090 is the one i'm gonna sell first :D
