Need help with Yamaha R9 PLEASE?

Hi, so I know very little about repairing gear, but I'm willing to attempt a repair if anyone has an idea what may be a likely culprit for the problem that just manifested.
I have the Yamaha R9, and I had speakers hooked up to A and C speaker inputs. The right output on the B speaker never worked, so I didn't use it. Into the C input I had a Niles Audio SPS4 speaker switch box which had 4 inputs. I had 3 sets of speakers hooked up to that box, and on the 4th input, I went to test an M-Audio DX4 powered speaker, which promptly blew the Yamaha receiver. No power or anything now to the receiver.

Here's what I've done thusfar. I have no speakers or ANYTHING connected to the receiver, just power cord. I only see one fuse, a 250V, 10 amp, which although is a Littelfuse, I replaced with a Buss fastblow 250v 10amp. It blows instantly when powering up. My questions are as follows...

Is there something about the Littelfuse that makes a difference? It looks like ceramic or paper wrapped perhaps (it's white),as opposed to clear glass like the Buss. Is there a difference and do I need the Littelfuse? I can't get it locally but can buy on ebay I suppose. Should it be a slow blow instead of a fast blow? Could it be something as simple as that?

Is there another fuse somewhere that I am missing?

If not, Is there a likely culprit for what caused the issue by hooking up the M-Audio DX4? If it blew the power supply, then I guess it's a cool looking paperweight now. But I'd really like to get it working again. Any ideas?

As I stated, I know little about gear repair, so if please reply if you seriously are interested in helping, as it would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like you shorted the outputs. I this powered speaker, was it the one with the power switch, and other plugs on the back? Just how did you hook it up? The red and black speaker terminals on the one that has all the other connectors is actually the output to the other speaker which is just a speaker.
 
I hooked the powered one to switch box and used the red and blacks like normal : (
I guess that means I sent power through the red and blacks to the switch box, and then to the amp, thus blowing the amp? Ugh.
So what needs to be fixed on the amp, if that is indeed what happened? Is it something relatively easy to fix on the amp? It seems from researching the 314 littelfuse series, that these are fast blow fuses, so I'm guessing a slowblow won't make a difference, other than to possibly cause MORE damage if it doesn't protect other elements from the short. Thoughts? And thanks for the response : )
 
Don't put another fuse in it. Every time you power it up now, you're likely to do more damage. What's more than likely happened is the main amp transistors on that channel are shorted. At minimum it means replacing those, and probably some other parts. I'm sure it can be fixed, and people here will help you with it. If it's outside your comfort zone, it might be worth having it repaired.

Yamaha's usually are not so easily fixed . When outputs short there is a real good chance of collateral damage.

How are you at reading a schematic diagram? The only " free" scan that I can find. Is not easy for a " rookie" to follow with 10-12 partial over lapping scans. Do you know how to use and own a multimeter ? Have any soldering/unsoldering tools ?

I can't say I am "good" at reading a schematic but I have worked a little with one on a philco predicta I was trying to fix once. I have not really used a multimeter, although I have one. I have some experience soldering...don't have a solder sucker, but getting one doesn't seem to be a big deal. I believe I joined hifiengine a while back...I'll look there. There is also a guy who has posted videos on youtube of this receiver. I've reached out to him via private message but he hasn't replied yet. Being a novice is a drag, but ya gotta start somewhere I guess.
 
Thanks OMG Cat and avionic...OMG, I'm probably gonna take you up on your offer, since you like poking around in them, and I was already when I blew up the receiver LOL... I'd greatly appreciate the help. I downloaded the service manual and started looking through it. I will look into identifying what avionic has referred to. Thanks again
 
Send a PM and we can figure something out. I'll have a look at the SM from Hifiengine.

I'd at least go as far as Avionic says and test the outputs with a meter. In circuit will give funny readings but if you're getting super low ohms it's not a good sign. Out of circuit will tell all.
Those types of preliminary checks on the outputs it should tell us if it's one channel or a full amp melt down.
