Help me find a receiver

I want:
Phono, tape, at least two aux inputs
THD < .5%
SNR > 85dB
And > 50 watts (my receiver rn is 100w)

Also if it had VU meters that would be a plus

Price isn't too important as long as it's below or around the $500 range, I can save up and look around for best deals

imo you don't have to limit your requirements for 2 aux inputs... many good amps w/one aux. ,simply get an rca extension box.

In addition you can look at 'integrated' amps i.e. Onkyo that offer both mm/mc phono cart capable usually low thd, cd and perhaps look at a separate am/fm tuner. Another option is look for a power amp and find a matched pre amp. The gist is imo garbage in garbage out.. good pre amps have ridiculous low thd% and properly matched to a clean power amp. i.e. yamaha and a others.

https://www.hifiengine.com/manual-library.shtml is usually my first stop to reference specs. Then I do cross reference for repairs or problematic amps.

Not sure how many receivers will have two "aux" inputs, but many have two "tape" inputs which serve the same function just differently named.
 
VU meters is going to be the hardest feature to find. Try Rotel RX-604. Sony STR-V5 through V7. Pioneer SX-xx80 series.
 
Pioneer 780 has 45 wpc and 880 has 60 wpc. Either one of those should be easily in your price range and fairly easy to find. I have a 680 and it is a nice receiver. Or you can get anything else you like and buy a Realistic APM series of VU meters. Some have the analog and some have the LED lights. They are usually under $100.

I just snagged my APM 100 for $30 shipped but I had to watch for one that cheap.

Yeah VU meters are going to be hard to find at that price point I know a great integrated amplifier that has a VU meters is the teac AX 501 but that one is 900 dollars and does not have a phono input you may want to look for something vintage like one of the vintage receivers from the 70s . But some of the modern marantz amps would work too for your price point I think your best bet would be the marantz pm6005 you can get it for 500 on amazon it has a phono preamp rca inputs everything your looking for besides the vu meters

Pretty nice looking vintage piece of kit for that price!

Has two tape loops, one aux, one (I think two actually) phono inputs.
120 watts/channel
has vu meters
Not real common but show up from time to time.
A good looking and fully working one sells for under the top of your budget.
Don't laugh because it's a no-name unit, they are actually nice sounding.
 
SNR 85, is that line or phono input. Phono input, not many do that.
0.5% THD, this is easy once you get past the mid-70s as this spec got better and better through the 70s.
2 Aux, as stated, use the Tape Monitor inputs. Same specs but are usually selected differently from the AM/FM/Phono, making it more convenient on many units than rotating the selector through a bunch of inputs to get the the AUX 2.


You just wanting specs or is sound quality a concern. I like the sound of the Luxman R-1050, 55wpc and well there are a hundred different receivers to put on the list. Might be best to just wait until something interesting shows up and check it out on HiFiEngine, Library for specs and jump when you see one you like. Oh the Luxman doesn't have those meters, it does power output indication with LEDs.
 
Someone could come out with a $100 amp and put a silver face on it with output meters and sell them like hotcakes for $400.
Money sitting right there on the table. Meanwhile I vote for the Rotel RX-404/504/604 as mentioned upthread.
