Nelson Pass F5 Mono's

Nelson Pass DIY F5 Mono's

Since Jeff brought them up in another thread, I thought I'd post a few pictures of where we are now. He will be doing the dirty work, I may look over his shoulder. If it's not built of wood, I have no clue.

They will be built using the Peter Daniels boards and Antek transformers. I could use some suggestions from the previous builders on what they would do different as far as parts go. The Toshiba's will be used once I can find a set. How about boutique resistors and caps, any thoughts?

Any and all suggestions welcome.

I'm using the same amp boards and power supply boards. Nice to see more builds going on.:thmbsp:

I would consult Mr. Daniels. I respect his research and findings. Nice looking build Gary!

Oh, I wouldn't do it like that! You better scrap that and start over.:D:D

Looking forward to what you guys come up with. IMO, there's a sweet spot between horrendously expensive with tight tolerance and low budget, garden variety components. I'm pretty sure Jeff has a feel for all this.

Another "IMO": there makes little sense to skimp on power suppy components. I went with all Panasonic, just like Mr. Pass. FWIW, I still have a couple of extra power supply caps if they can be of any use to stetching your budget.

I don't know about that, but have you considered veneering the top in Hickory? That certainly would give off a nice aroma with the amps running :D

These are going to be nice! I'm anxiously awaiting the chance to hear them when completed

wow thanks for your confidence Lance! ;)

The really great thing about the F5 is that there are so few components you can't break the bank buying boutique resisters, etc.

HEXFREDS, Toshiba outputs, decent hardware bits and a couple of dozen Kiwame resistors are not that outrageous.

Fitting Kiwame's on those boards are another thing.

Gary we'll have to get together soon, my amp will be here on Tuesday so we should kill 2 birds with one visit. (I have the birch plywood)

Hey Lance thanks! I'll PM you.

Let's do it Jeff. I need a little help on parts.

As of yesterday I have the raw bits, time to start laying it out. The toriod is on the bottom, I think I'll attach the power supply board to one side and the driver board to the opposite..

maybe

Go Jeff!
Did you get Antek torroids? I think the Anteks are pretty good, cool runnin'.

What speakers are these driving, I've lost track?

These will drive my two pairs of Jordans. One with ribbon, one without. They will also get a swing at the Altec 604's.

Antek transformers will be used.

Yes.... he got the 400 models too.

HEXFRED rectifier blocks, all active devices are Toshiba... first class build.

I'm not sure what he has in mind but he has a nice assortment to choose from!

OK, here we go... I stuffed the power supply PCBs this evening, and horned in on Russellc's thread on how to wire in the board. It's a little different from the cviller boards that I used but still its pretty simple stuff. I just like to be sure when all y'all are watching.

Was wondering about that, I see each box has two heatsinks, I was wondering if one was going unused, or if you plan on centrally mounting the amp board and running leads to the output devices, one on each side?

Lord, I thought I was overkilling using 300 VA transformers!

I'm getting ready to post that info!
