Nelson Pass F5 Mono's

After living with this system for a few months, I thought a little update would be in order.

This is one beautiful sounding system. No need for the super tweeters sitting on top either. I still tweak speaker placement every no and then, but I've had no desire to switch anything out of this system.

None of this could have been possible without the two great AKer's that assembled the Pass units. Lance and Jeff, I thank you.

I'm really happy that you are still pleased! I'm listening to my F5 right now and am about 2 weeks from building new boards with Toshibas and Takmans, and swapping out the rectifier blocks for HEXFREDs.

Then I can be like Gary!

Hey, you're very welcome. Glad everything is sounding sweet and thanks for the update.

Jeff, I'm on the same build and timeline, Toshibas, HEXFRED's, but I'm still shopping resistors for the amp boards. Are the Takman's the best a guy can get in the higher values? The precision resistors that Tal used look pretty cool, I've forgotten the name but they had great specs.

I want to be like Gary, too, but doesn't everyone :D.

I'm gearing for build number 2, and was also wondering about the resistor choices.

Looking good Gary! Sounding good also I bet

Are you giving the 2-way Jordans a rest for a spell?

What are the build changes compared to a standard build with one PS board, other than the obvious second PS board? Are the transformers smaller? Anyone have a schematic outlining the differences?

Nice work.

Thanks!

John

F5 monos, B1, Alpair 12P's are a beautiful match. Thanks again specialidiot! Mr Pass as well gets a big thanks for designing some of these bits.

Yep, I was listening this morning and the room had a chill. Coldest room in the house. Did a little cable swapping and was ready to run.

I'm using a small bookshelf not unlike you built. They seem to work very well in my small listening room. I'll build some Pencil cabinets some day, but I'm in no rush at this point.
