Hello AK!

After trying many configurations in my new apartment I decided it'd be simpler to save up for new speakers than to try to make everything fit. After I made that decision, I decided to shoot for an entirely new setup. It will be for music and movies, but as far as sound preferences it's 100% for the music listening experience (I'm just tired of the built in TV speakers). Between the speakers, subwoofer, and receiver I'm trying to stay in the $1,000 range. I've only picked the speakers and receiver so far. Prices are approximate.
Speakers - Elac Debut F5 $560 a pair
Receiver - Denon AVRS530BT 5.2 $279

That doesn't leave much room for a subwoofer, but it seems like I'm not going to get a decent one until over $500-600 at least. Should I keep with my budget and get a $150-200 subwoofer and upgrade later if I want? Or should I spend less money on the speakers or receiver to give myself more wiggle room?

I'm hooking up my Technics SL-QD33 turntable, and a Sony CDP-C235 CD player (which needs to be replaced at some point), and the TV (a Vizio SmartTV that's a couple years old).

Also, just on a side-note. Is this the appropriate place to post this thread?

so you are not going for surround sound? what current receiver do you have? If not you can keep you current receiver and hook it up to your cable box with normal RCA plugs. That will let you spend more on you sub.

Not too worried about the surround sound, main focus is just a decent stereo setup. I have an Onkyo TX-8511, I thought maybe I should upgrade, but it works, so I could keep that and spend more on the sub.

After looking at it again I'll stick with the current receiver. It just doesn't have some of the new bells & whistles, but it seems to be a good receiver. My technical knowledge is very limited (which is why I'm hear trying to learn!)

Thanks! Someone recommended SVS, and they looked awesome, but were initially out of my budget. Now that I'm keeping my old receiver they're an option! I'll check out HSU Research too
 
Sweet! I love my SVS sub (a PC-12 Plus cylinder sub). 100% worth the extra money; I upgraded from a Klipsch 12" (Sub12HG).
