New car decisions.

IMO buy a 13k dollar used car and put the other 4k in an interest bearing account for repairs and service. We bought our 05 dodge magnum with 38k miles on it for 13,500. The window sticker was in the glove box... 34,900 sticker.

Food for thought...

Ill throw my .02 in here.
We just bought a 08 Mazda 6 a year ago after the first one 07 maz 6 was totaled. My wife and I ride together 100 miles round trip every day and its a great car. The 4cyl is peppy enough to get out of its own way and still gets 30mpg. Service is cheap and wont need any for a long while other than oil changes.

We also have an 02 protege 5 that has 140k on it. Its still running strong and have done cross country trip in this thing without any problems. So we have been really happy with mazda , not to metion that my father in law is a retired mazda mechanic.

The 3 would be a good choice too. If you get the 2.3 its the same 4cyl as the 4cyl in the 08 mazda 6 and the Mercury milan. (mercury milan = ford fuzion = mazda 6 up to 2008) The 09 is a completely different car.

We had an 03 V70 turbo wagon. I loved it but the upkeep was too much especially with our commute.

So my vote would be
mazda 6
mazda 3

Bought my daughter a new Chevy Silverado work truck - tiny (4.8l) V-8, automatic, air conditioning, and carpet. Nothing else. 3 yr/36,000 on the truck, 5 yr/100,000 on the drivetrain. $13, 258.00 out the door. She won't be a taxi for everyone, and when she's done with it, it will still be worth something.

Don't forget about scions they have some more sporty or square looking models.

Have you looked into the Toyota Maxtrix and in the right color I think they look nice to.

I'm done promoting Toyota as you have said nothing really catches your eye anyways. Whatever you get enjoy :thmbsp:

$15k to blow on wheels? I'd get a Serotta Meivici

I'd get a bike too...just

one of a different sort.

You're the second or third person to recommend Scion, so I take it they are pretty nice, and I do really like the TC. The big problem I have with it though is the dark interior. I really dislike dark interiors.
FWIW, me too. My wifes car is a nice cream leather. We both love it. I got over it with my xBox though. My biggest problem with the interior is it is the first car I've had since the early nineties that does not have a leather interior. I have rediscovered static when I get out of the car.

If you haul stuff, the xB is a HUGE plus over your other choices. I can carry two basses in cases, a large aluminum footswitch box, a 4x10 cabinet, my six rack space amp, two mike stands and mike bag, AND TWO more adults - comfortably. And it gets 31-33 mpg.

I got the stick though. It is a must, due to the power.

Meanwhile, you can throw that sucker around like a sports car if you have experience with the e-brake.

Sorry. I can be a bit of a bore when the subject comes to that car. I really like it. :D

I do not blame you one bit on the desire to avoid a dark interior. Especially in Florida. I had a dark maroon interior in my Toyota when I lived down there and while it wasn't a scorcher, it didn't help.

But perhaps more important is that I find that mentally, I prefer light interiors. It helps keep my mood positive. I find that when I drive a car with a dark interior for an extended period, it's somewhat depressing.
I have to admit, now that you mention it, my Scion is almost always garaged. Garaged at home, garaged at work. If it sat in the sun all day, I might not like that interior all that much. I'd probably cover the seats at least with something light.

The Mercury Milan is a very nice vehicle, and certified/used, a steal. Look also at the Montego cert/used... bigger, and based on the Volvo S-80 chassis.

FYI, the Scions of the last 2 years (i believe it is) have more power.

My ass hurts just looking at the photo of that speed bike with a tiny seat cushion.

Volvo!!! My friend drives a 2005 S40 T5 AWD and it's a wonderful car. Outruns 4.6 GT stangs too haha

Find one that is a certified pre owned. They come with a 100k warranty. Very nice

Yes, right now the Mazda3, and Volvo S40 are in my top three. They are both owned by Ford if it makes you feel any better, Pete. :D
I think the time for all browsing is over. I need to get behind the wheel of a few of these!

Do not get anything European!
My Volvo is a piece of poop. Granted, they haven't made the 850 for 12 years...
Beemer has had a bad rep for reliability of late. Ditto for MB
Additionally, I believe GM to be too unstable to toy with

Ford is good (Five Hundred, Fusion)
Chrysler/Dodge (300/Charger, Dodge Avenger)
Subaru (Legacy, plain Impreza)
Nissan (Altima 2.5, Maxima)
Mitsubishi (Galant, Lancer)
Hyundai (Tiburon, Sonata, Azera, XG350)
Kia (Amanti)
Mazda (3, MX-5)
Mini
Smart fortwo Cabriolet brabus

Chrysler

I have to take exception to some of these comments and recommendations.

While the Mini is a great small car, the Smart fortwo has been widely panned for being unremarkable and too little car for too much money. As Consumer Reports recently said, you can get a lot more car (and a safer car) elsewhere, for the same money.

You say GM is too unstable, yet recommend some Chrysler products?

Chrysler is the most unstable of all of the big 3.

I didn't want to get into slamming the Chrysler brand here, but their products consistently have the poorest quality of the big 3 us automakers. Plus, their reliability is the worst of the americans. And I personally feel they make the ugliest cars of the u.s. brands.

Sitting in the current Charger is like sitting in a plastic matchbox. There are blunt, ugly slabs of plastic everywhere and the worst visibility imaginable.

I wouldn't take a Chrysler product if you gave it to me.

I'm sure this has offended a few, but I had to speak my mind.

I feel similarly.

There is a reason. The late model scion xb is 600 lbs heavier than the old model and a full foot longer.

My old xB fits in my garage like a motorcycle. I had a choice when I bought mine and chose the old one, and it had nothing to do with the price.

Granted, it also had all the room I needed for my stuff. If I had needed the extra room, I would have chosen differently.

Oh, the old one has more headroom, but probably way more than most people need.
