New Chinese magnetic levitation turntable

It's the "Jasmine MORE" JS-TA224 turntable:

The platter is levitated by magnetic repulsion, but is still supported by a center spindle and is belt driven, so it doesn't spin and wobble in free air like other ones you've seen.

A video on the Alibaba listing shows how the platter works:

An interesting idea, although I don't think I'd spend over $800 on it...

I had a look, and the same company has a bright colored portable with a small form factor, which had a light tracking magnetic cartridge and a removable bluetooth speaker... @vwestlife that could be a great youtube video! Very neat looking modern portable. Could be a great little player if it holds speed accurately.

Interestingly they also appear to sell Chinese made records... would be interesting to see what that is all about, maybe there is an up and coming vinyl revival in China itself?

Is this related to those jasmine phono cartridges? Because Those are well made

EDIT:l I MEANT TO SAY PHONO STAGES. I THINK THAT JASMINE IS A TAIWANESE COMPANY IF MY MEMORY SERVES.

That's actually a Kickstarter project:

Maybe it'll be OK, but I'm skeptical of its toy-like design. And $229 is a lot for what you get.

What the hell is going on with those speakers?
Either they don't match what is playing, or he has some serious placement problems.

Good bluetooth speakers already cost close to $200, and they use DSP, digital amplifiers, and passive radiators to sound better than any portable record player I have heard.

A lot of things could ruin this design, but it has some gadget appeal. That video doesn't really tell a person how good the record player is.

I would assume this infringes upon Mag Lev Audio's patent, IF they properly filed for one.
No, and unlike the OPs title this is not a magnetic levitation turntable as is the case with Mag Lev Audio. As far as I know and last read Mag Lev Audio really isn't getting any of their tables to the people who pre-ordered, so I wouldn't even call them a company, or viable company.

This table that the thread is about simply has a magnetic bearing, very common on lots of high end tables.

Right, my Clearaudio table has their version with the ceramic magnetic bearing, they've been producing that for at least a decade, it uses a ceramic shaft ...

As you say, many others, and it has become popular in the Chinese tables, many have them, though in many cases with the big heavy platters, it is to unload some of that platter weight from the conventional ball bearing, not to actually float the platter. I think the whole Amari line, or at least the ones modeled after the Hanss tables, use magnetic platter bearings. And if you look on ebay, there are many platter and bearing kits you can buy to install one on your own table.

Perhaps Mag Lev Audio infringes on JVC patent.

Sure that patent hasn't expired? Did it even have a WO patent issued? Would not be infringement if its only been issued for a few countries. Patent law is weird stuff.

It might be similar to the one Teac violated, which I thought was the Luxman version? Disclaimer: I know nothing of substance on this...just from a bit of reading...I am not an attorney and you should consult one regarding your patent issues.

There was a member here who is no longer active who bought a FFYX table that had an air bearing platter and linear tracking tone arm. I think it sold for a tad over $1K on the initial offering. I always thought that was the Chinese table to try, but I wasn't going to risk that kind of cash on an unknown table. Sometimes wish I would have.

Cheers

Interesting looking table. According to the website, it would cost $1879 including shipping. There is not much information on the website. Things like available tonearm mounting brackets and associated measurement data. Too many unknowns to take a chance on it. At least at the present time...
