New England Winter Frankenfest February 23rd Clinton MA

Down by atlantic city. Visited my grandfather and now checking my parents into a local hotel. Then heading home. Long weekend!

Does anyone have the name and contact info of the guy who was taking donations for WGBH? (he had power cables and isolation feet at his table)
 
I had a very interesting conversation with him. His name is Steve Hluchan, and he is a physicist who had worked in the audio industry as a sort of second career (there was a reason he had a Mark Levinson cup), and has some new ideas on speaker design. And his son lives in my town, though I don't believe I've ever met him. So fun talking with him.
I would be uncomfortable publishing his contact info without permission, but I'll ask him to contact you.
 
The fishers were in the back hallway by the restrooms.

Nothing was set up upstairs but that will change next time (hopefully).
The upstairs is off of the beaten path so we'll have to put up signs to point the way.

How was your 1/2 marathon?

you were/are a great sport. i feel like i monopolized that room...didn't mean to, but folks loved the AR3a's. ugly looking, gorgeous sounding.

And thanks for the well wishes, or should I say splashes, on the race? It was a soggy day today to say the least. But overall finished just under 2 hours (1:58:45 according to my wrist).

Had the pleasure of partaking in TWO extremely well organized events this weekend. Cashed in a lot of points that I may have accumulated with the wifey. (Time to start opening doors for her again!)
 
I think the upstairs idea is fantastic! Downstairs is, obviously, perfect for sellin', drinkin', and hobnobbin.' The upstairs area (thats right, I took a peek) would be perfect for individual systems. It would have been great to hear those curious Fisher speakers in a more open environment (although, they really sounded kinda great next to the bathroom!).
 
figures,I live in Clinton, and spent the whole day in boston scouring thru vintage/antique stores trying to find audio gear...JUST MY LUCK!

i agree.

let me know where the pipe organ room will be located so John and I don't piss anyone else off!

and going up will reduce the likelihood i cart 7 pair of speakers to this thing!
 
This was my first Frankenfest, and I thoroughly enjoyed myself. Picked up a couple of nice KT88s from Jamal, and got them tested on Al's tube tester.:thmbsp:

Obviously a lot of hard work goes into putting together an event like this, and I would like to extend my thanks and appreciation to all involved. Great job!

Having the upstairs as a listening area next time sounds great. (Pun intended). While it sounded cool, I found that the organ music playing loudly very close to where I was trying to use the stylus microscope made it tough for me to think and concentrate. OK, that may be true of me anyway but it made me believe that a quiet(er) area for focused work like soldering, speaker refoaming, tube testing, stylus inspection, etc. might be a good idea. That will also allow the music in the dedicated listening area to be played at whatever level people in that area want. Can you hear me now? :wave:

Big thanks to Jim, Frank, Peter, and the rest of the crew as always. Bonus points to the chefs of the sourdough, gravlax, noodles, and lasagna. Noticed a lot of Significant Others at the party this time. An informal poll indicates around half of them were actually interested in being there. Looks like we're turning over a new leaf!

It was awesome to see so many people and so much gear in one place. It was overwhelming. Every time I walked around the place I saw something new. Heard a lot of cool sounds, saw a lot of cool gear, talked to a lot of cool people. Despite having no money I still managed to buy stuff--for the first time at one of these things, actually. Maybe I'm losing my self control.

I'm down for the pipe organ room next time. Anyone wanna help me move my Polk 1.2Tls to the next fest?

In 10 years we'll have a dedicated building for this stuff. ;)
 
My wife and I were first-timers at the NE fest, thanks to all for making us feel welcome. Was a great time with great people, food and gear-- I greatly look forward to the next one.

Here's another photo I took of the Fishers (or, in this case, Fisher and the great tube amp driving it).
