Hi...

I'm new to the forum. I've been lurking for a while, and benefiting from the vast resource of knowledge here.

I'm a history professor at Rutgers University, and my main research interests are the history of 20th century soundscapes, and avant-garde music (particularly electronic music).

I remember my dad's stereo, when I was growing up in the 1970s. It was an all-in-one (turntable, amoplifier tuner), and I remember it sounding great. When I had my own money, I bought a Sony STR-AV(something) with no volume dial, and a linear-tracking turntable.

I came back to HiFi a few years ago through my research. And I'm building a new system for my office/studio...

I look forward to your collective help and guidance.

Hey Doc! Welcome ot the SS AK.

Transition from "Lurker" to "Participant" does take time, as one want to test the waters.

I am to a degree, but a degree below yours in the area of Hist, and have but the one ques that we must get into sometime: Why does history keep repeating itself? Are we simply either OCD or SOL...both?:)

Quadman... Marx said that history always repeats, the first time as tragedy, and the second time as farce. I think we're way past farce by now. So I tell my students that we need history because our memory is so bad. We keep forgetting that the bright glowy thing on the stovetop can hurt, so we keep touching it.

MarZutra... A Bluenose! I'm originally from Montreal, but I have deep NS roots -- in Halifax and Lunenburg. In fact, Salter Street in Halifax used to be my ancestor's driveway.
 
Gah... Katz's hasn't been the same since When Harry Met Sally. ;) Veselka is still good, though. Change is not always good, but it is unavoidable.

Thanks -- I will. BTW, I am a Rutgers College graduate-class of 1979. I understand they've gotten rid of the various colleges of the old federated system and everything is just Rutgers University these days. I bet that annoyed a lot of people. :)

They kept Douglas as a separate college, with its own dean, but the rest of the New Brunswick colleges (Rutgers, Livingston, etc.) merged in 2007. I teach at Rutgers Newark which, like Rutgers Camden, is a separate unit within the Rutgers system. At around the time they mrged the colleges in New Brunswick, they consolidated the whole system into three geographical units.
