hi guys I'm new here I've liked this site it has helped me over the years with my collection. I would like to introduce me and my collection to everyone. I'm from Ontario Canada and have been collecting pioneer equipment for a few years now the collection started when my dad handed down his sx-1010 to me witch I fell in love with and now Im the proud owner of that along with its little brother the sx-424 and most recently I found a 5 piece set that includes the sa-8500 amp sg-9500 eq a ct-f600 single tape deck a tx-8500 tuner and a pl-530 two speed turntable.. Hopefully I come across a few more jems in the future but this stuff is hard to find in Canada.. I do need help with my sx-1010 but I figure I should at lease get to know what's in the pioneer forum b4 I just ask for help

Lots of Pio gurus here to help you. I am a big fan of the Fluoroscans. I have a SX 3900 being restored now. I have 2 SX 3800's and 1 SX 3700. I also had another mint SX 3700 that I just passed down to my oldest son. Hooked him up with a restored PL 112D TT. He is hooked on vinyl. Nice looking rig you got there.

im currently trying to find out if im going down the right path I own an sx 1010 after a cap went on the power board im having trouble finding all affected areas of the receiver. So from what I can figure is I have a direct short on the left high output transistors (bank in heat sink near transformer) I believe I hav a high voltage problem on either the protection circuit board or the left power amp board im leaning toward the left power amp

I have a feeling that's its the left amp but im not sure if I need to fix any other board gonna place an order once I figure out if I need to do 1 board or all
also when I was on the power board I replaced just about everything on it I did take my time double checked pin location of what I was taking out as to what I put in

any insight as to if im going in the right direction and if im over looking something

Would like to see the power supply voltages as a cross check.
If the output(s) were shorted it would be blowing the main fuse.
The set looks railed on the left amp. An amp board restore is in order.
You did the PS, the next natural step is the amps.
Probably forgo the voltage readings from the PS and restore the amp boards.
Best not to run it any more than you need to.

Sounds like a good plan. Nice to see you have the resident expert involved.
Find/search for a Power amp BOM list, Zeb would know better than me where to find one. Too bad we just don't have these BOM's already loaded into Mouser project manager.

It's a Phillips 591 it was my great grand fathers and I use it to power a pair or 10 inch 1000w rms subs

That's a great listi have the book of parts and a layout of every board.. but I wanna know if I have to go further than the power amp boards to fix the direct short to the output transistors

I have done a full rebuild on the power board I can get the readings for u sometime next week and I'll post I put the project on hold due to the season and I couldn't leave it on my kitchen table.... You are right it does blow the main fuse on power up but if I remove 2sa747 both of them on the left side the unit will power up.. Now I did try changing them to solve the issue it didn't help.. I did do I full swap of transistors and diodes except for the STV-3H diodes cause i couldn't find replacements.. I have been toying with the idea of trying to find a good amp board and power board from a unit that has hit the graveyard but it's hard to find here..
 
You'll probably want to perform the 6-way diode test on those outputs, the drivers, and check the emitter resistors as well. The parts count is fairly low and it's not the worst thing in the world to perform a complete rebuild of both outputs and be done with it. That unit is definitely worth almost any effort to save it.

Zebulon is an excellent resource on these units (and many others). He didn't invent the 1010, but it might seem that way sometimes. Of course, that's not to take away from any of the other experts present here, like EchoWars, Markthefixer, tsd, larry, glen, Dr., Audio, and a host of others (sorry if I can't list them all), but Zeb will certainly steer you straight from what I've experienced.

Don't buy a board. It has or will have the same problem.
What's the hurry?

What transistors did you pull? Q?, Board?
You have to be careful when you do that on the 1010's.
