New JBL-L82-Classics?

Hi folks,
I've been thinking about getting a pair of the new JBL-L100-Classics to run with my old Marantz gear.
It seems they've also added these 2-Way Bookself Speakers rated for 150-watts to the line-up?
Anyone own or heard?

Not familiar with it, but as it uses the same tweeter as the L100 classic, I'd expect it to be voiced similarly but with less bass extension.
 
It really depends on what you want from a speaker. Do you want a lot of punch and sizzle and sparkle? Good speaker for that. Do you want honest tone, top notch imaging, and deep bass? Neither the L100 nor the L82 exemplify those traits. It's a very listenable speaker. Some people really like them. They're not my kind of speaker though. Maybe they're yours.

Have you heard the new L82s? Some people on AK have reported favorable results with the L100 Classics (as opposed to the classic L100, which a lot of people also like, but could not be considered accurate).

My only frame of reference is the JBL's fro the 1970's....
Then when noticing the L82's are available again, it has me thinking more and more.....

In an attempt to downsize everything (in my life) do you have opinions on these?
The McIntosh XR50 Bookshelf Speakers? I feel I "need" a pair of these regardless what else I buy in addition.

You really can't compare them. They share a name and a slight physical resemblance, but that's it. They're an entirely new (and superior) design.
 
I have some new L100 Classics. I LOVE them! I don't know how to express how much I like listening to these speakers. They just sound really, really good driven by my MA6500. Nothing fancy in the system. I assume those L-82's will sound really good too. It's a JBL thing. :)

I have a pair of the new 100’s and this statement is pretty far off the mark. Like I’ve said in other forums, I’d blind test these any day over week with anything brought to the table. The new 82’s won’t be available until April I believe.

At -6dB at 40Hz, getting any deep bass out of the L100 will entirely depend on carefully placing them in the room. It's difficult to imagine the L82 equalling that spec.
 
Not having heard either the Mac or the JBL L100 classics, I would guess the Macs are more bling then sound. You should really hear both before dropping that kind of money. Look at the efficiency of the Macs, 81dB??? I think the L100 would be a more practical choice. I can tell you for certain they will play much louder then the Macs.

of course, the reason for lower efficiency is for better bass response from a 6" woofer in a bookshelf speaker. It's a design choice.

I checked into it and it seems April is correct, so nowhere to test-drive until then....

I would suspect an amp with high current would be required. I'e always thought it easier to get a dynamic sound form speakers at low volumes with a reasonably high sensitivity and efficiency.
 
I suspect the L82 will be offered by all the guys that are carrying the new L100 in the near future as they were introduced during the CES show. I believe they were designed by the Revel team and they have produced some of the most awesome speakers. Lots of JBLs are 2 ways so I wouldn't let that bother you and the 6" woofers of today are certainly very capable. Real wood cabinets, too.
 
One of my favourite reviews loves the L100's

The L100 Classics only "look" like the 70's version.
I too am interested in the L82's when available.

Can I ask what you're using with the JBL's?
I'm really close to getting some - but I'm worried my Marantz 2265 won't do the job... (there's also the 4/8 Ohm thing).
 
The L100 are fairly efficient at 90dB, I suspect your 2265 will be more than sufficient (unless you're trying to play at rock concert levels). Most vintage Marantz are rated for 4 ohm loads so there shouldn't be an issue there.
