Tha's a great idea, adding a three channel amp to the line-up. Now one has a less expensive option of adding center and surround amplification. It would certainly allow me to reduce the amout of amplifiers I have by one. At this point as expensive as Mcintosh is getting, I'm sticking with my 501's and 252's.

Okay I knew that comment would be a winner! However, the new 7 series is much nicer than the original imho. I like the current X5 too but not the 3 or 5. My comment about the US and Asia stems from the large number of frankly horrifically designed vehicles stemming from certain countries. I won't name any in case someone drives one.
I believe the cognescenti on this forum have much better taste than most given that they use Mc gear.

Those 2 components don't go together, but it's far from ugly. That's a very nice disk player.

EDIT: So that's actually the MCD301? I was thinking it was something new until I went back and re-read.

Does that mean it plays SACDs? That would be a nice feature.

If I were designing a Mac Mini system, I'd have two stackable components with the same dimensions; one an SACD/CD player with a digital input, the other a preamp/tuner with three analog inputs (one for the player and two auxiliary inputs), and then I'd have built the amps into the speakers.

XR200 expected around Q4 or thereabouts. No delivery date yet for the AP1000 or Blu Ray player. Heard the Trinnov processor that Mcintosh will be using in the AP1000. Sherwood demoed it in their receiver. Very impressive! Adds a lot of airiness, and a huge soundstage, as well as acoustically moving the center speaker from below the screen to the center! Uncanny. Dialogue also much more open.

Interesting choice to make it a solid state preample and a tube power amp, instead of the other way around. A tube preamp and solid state power amp would allow for a more compact design, no?

After looking closely at Jem666's photos (thank you), I am warming to the design concept of the "Mini". McIntosh will sell a large number of these to young execs for the "office" system. There will be one in every board room. Even if it's not used there, it will make a statement just sitting on some polished walnut cabinet. It's cool. I like it.

Now that I see these photos, I too am warming up to the mini. Looking at it from these angles, it makes more sense, with the top component slanted to match the profile of the speakers. I like it too.
