To me , it looks great.
I' m just a bit disappointed Mac did not make a one piece unit, with the CD player incorporated in the amp.
And I just don't like the aluminium sides of the speakers. To me, this feature should remain only on the electronics. I prefer wood speakers also...
Anyway, it looks great, but the sound is more important. Can't wait to hear it

This is the first info I have read ANYWHERE about a 136 replacement. Any further info, such as availability, would be great.

I think the speakers are what bug me the most. The shot of the speaker with the grill removed makes the system look much more sophisticated... the aluminum sides seems to cheapen the speakers.

Aesthetically I don't much mind separates, but it seems to make the entire system less practical and less elegant at once... two power cords, more cabling running between the units, etc.

I've been waiting for a McIntosh mini system for years but I'll pass on this monstrosity.

You've got two completely mismatched components. The top piece looks like it was made by McIntosh but has an angled faceplate that makes it look like it was smashed with a sledgehammer or something. The bottom piece doesn't look like it was made by McIntosh at all. Totally different style. Different width, depth and height. Totally different controls. Even the displays are different, the top one big, light blue and bright, the bottom one small, dark blue and dim.

What is going on with McIntosh's design aesthetic lately? I've noticed they cannot seem to pick a common display type/size for more recent components as well. This mini system however is just plain ugly.
 
Those that saw the system in person loved it. The design has been very well received.

Maybe we would have liked it here too, if someone had posted "official" or better pictures.

It's funny girls usually look better in photos, but Audio equipment and cars look better in real life. :confused:

Perhaps the people at CEDIA were just trying to be polite. And I'm sure the people responsible for new Coke would swear up and down that it tested even better than the original Coke.

I'll withhold final judgement until I see it in person, but judging from the photographs, it's an aesthetic let down.

I think I will trust my initial assessment of the photos. Another recent Mc piece also looked rather 'unique' in the photos and seeing it in the flesh has not altered my view unfortunately.:tears:

Well, it happened yesterday. Both importer and sales person showed up to deliver the spanking new MX136, and my newly repaired MC275.
It was beautiful with the stack filled up. With the pieces turning on in unison (components connected via stereo mini jack cables), now it is HT-idiot proof (good news for my family :) ).

But lo and behold, the video did not work. :thumbsdn: The output on the TV was garbled like a bad analog TV reception. The guys couldn't figure out, and after 1 hour, left without the spanking new unit working ! Need to have a cake and eat it too.

Does this problem sound familar to anybody's MX136 experience?

I don't think $10,000 is a bargain unless you are masterlu. :D Of course you get desensitized by the ever increasing prices for McIntosh equipment. When Pioneer announced their flagship Blu-Ray player for $2500 my first reaction was "wow, that's a steal!" and then realized what I just said. A couple years ago that price would have seemed outrageous to me.

I believe everyone of us has had that thought at one point in their audiophile life.

Years ago, I said there is no way on earth I'd pay $2200 for a power cable. Fast forward ---- have 5 times that in power components now.

We're all nuts -- and it feels good to be so.:thmbsp:
