New Project: JBL L200 restoration

Bob, you are crossing the LE15B to the LE85 at 1kHz with the H92 horns correct? Have you recapped the other networks you recommended, or did you swap them in as is?

I'm looking at the schematics for those two that you mentioned, but I have also been looking for an excuse to play with a MiniDSP, so I may just tweak around with one of those and a spare amp to see where I think they sound the best before building anything.

First, I'll spend 20 bucks on capacitors and get the LX16A crossovers working as intended before going much further. Future upgrades are only a woofer removal away, but things are only original once.
No my pair of 2215bs same as Le15b crosses over at 800 cps but not to Le85’s to 376 2” Drivers. But I have used them quite successfully with Le85’s as well
The Cloth edge woofers come up to 800 cps
Far better than the foam edge woofers.
The Short L200 Horns will go to 800 cps
Although not as good as the slightly longer L300s I think it’s the H93 Horns

No I haven’t recapped My Lx80’s btw they are the 3 way’ that includes the 7000 cps Tweeter and pads

One last thing to know about The Jbl box crossovers, all of these are interchangeable.
An Lx5 with a 16 Ohm 375 is close to 500 cps
When used with a 8 Ohm LE85 is around 800 cps. An Lx10’s with 16 Ohm Driver 800 cps
With 8 Ohm drivers 1,000 or higher

I have a pair of LX5/N7000's lying around too, so that should work for experimentation purposes. My LE85's are 8 Ohm so that would cross them at 800Hz, but I assume the 4 Ohm woofer might be an issue with the LX5.

What 4 Ohm woofers? Far as I know Jbl didn’t make any large 4 ohms.
I don’t think it’s critical anyway as far as Xover points. Might be for your amps though

I'm pretty sure the LE15B is a 4 ohm woofer, same specs as the old 2216 in the pro monitors.

JBL LE15B (range of 4 drivers measured)

Re: 3.3-3.6 ohms
Fs: 24-26hz
Qts: .1633 - .1859
Qes: .1803 - .1950
Qms: 4.172 - 4.763
Le: .58 mH

Definitely not!
static Ohm readings of 3.2.-6.5 is common for an 8 Ohm speaker.
The of plate states either 6-8 or 8 or 16 ohms
I have 0ver 10 pair of Le15-a B and 2215-2216’s

JBL literature has them as a nominal 4Ω woofer as well. We can solve this :) I have a DAT speaker impedance tester just waiting for stuff like this to come up.

I'll run a test tonight.......

I can’t argue with the printed Jbl Literature
I see it does list a 4 Ohm 2216.
Obviously this was for the pro sound industry
As a guide to how to set up a system for the given amplification.
I stand corrected. You are correct.
I have never seen a 4 Ohm Le15 or 2215
I have to dig out a pair of 2216’s
But as in my original statement about the Jbl box Xovers, being interchangeable.i don’t think the Woofers impedance changes the Xover point that much at least in a home system Most pro sound systems Biamp any way.

Base construction has begun. I think I am going to build this first set up out of 2x4 with the implied ~1" increase in height and see what I think. My plan is that these must slide easily on my carpeted basement floor, so the bases will be substantially thicker with glides on the bottom. If they look bad after filling/duratex treatment, I can always build another set until I am happy. Pics to follow....

Note the spray-on rubber coating on the horns.
