My dad was an amateur explosives guy... loved to blow stuff up and usually had a case of the stuff around. Stumps were great fun, he'd love to estimate where the sucker would land. Me, I loved blowing ditches.

Family First!!!! I'm in the middle of new and improved F5 boards but left them alone last night to hang with my wife and daughter. Its way more fun and rewarding!
 
I saw those boards. They look very good. Yep, Family First.

We called it blowing stumps, but is was actually blowing a passage under old growth timber will fell in order to get the choker under the log. Great fun. On the way down the mountain after work, we would through a 1/4 stick in the high mountain lakes and scoop up the fish and have them for dinner. Ah, to be young.
 
OK, this is an un-official poll: which one of the hockey pucks should I use for the clamp on my RCM? I have a brass fitting that will screw into the puck that I can tap for the threaded spindle.

Hi Dave, I got all the bits for the sucker yesterday. All pvc. I'll show pics of how it will go together later today or tomorrow. I was going to use a crushed velvet on the tube.
 
Here is the record clamp. Red Wings hockey puck with a 1/4-20 incert. I will glue felt on the bottom just to be nice to my lables. Should work great.

dang, that 3.3rpm makes mine seem like its going to spin right off its bearing; my rapidly spinning 6rpm motor that is,.... :)

I admire your ambition in building this R.C.M. after just finishing a DIY TT.I have a Spin Clean.I am interested in the vacuum wand that you come up with since I want to make a hand held vacuum wand to vacuum off the records after Spin Cleaning.

Thanks Dave. It is really out of necessity as ALL my LPs are filthy and I had all the parts so what the hey!

I'll post pix of the wand as I get it done.

I might add that this is a simple build after the TT. Nothing need be perfect.
 
You can but replacement felt made for The Disc Doctor for around 15.00.It looks like they are thin strips to be placed on either side of a slot cut in the wand.

Love the idea of using teak, in fact I think now that if I made an RCM (which I'd love to do "someday") I'd use teak for everything that might get wet. My Nitty Gritty seems to be made of MDF or something with a vinyl covering, and I can see where the MDF is beginning to swell from moisture in a few places.
