Hi Jon, I used teak because I had a length of it sitting in the garage. I wish I could say I was purposeful in its use. I will give the plywood 3 or 4 coats of Captains Spare varnish which should stave off the moisture.

Now that we are moved in to our new house. I decided to add legs to my RCM. Here is an example of what I'm looking for. I think they will look good under the dynamite box.

You might want to consider maybe something else; I used to have one of those as a kind of side table, and they weigh a ton -- kind of more trouble than they're worth, or at least it was for me . . .

I hear you John but they are just so cool looking. My room is right off the garage so I don't have to wrestle it to far.

No Sol, I pulled this project back off the shelf and looking for a cool stand for it.

It certainly can be very sturdy. We used to have one of those in the basement--the whole sewing machine on the base. It wasn't really hard to move around, just had to go slow because the small steel wheels were sometimes a little cantankerous. As I recall, we would keep them well oiled, probably using the Singer sewing machine oil.
