Oneohtrix Point Never / Garden of Delete / Warp Records

A remarkable electronic collage of ugliness and beauty.

Is there anyone who does not like the man?
All Music gave the album 4 stars, I gotta think because... well... he's Ringo.
Musically, I can only give it 2 1/2. The man, I can give the full 5 stars to. :beerchug:

Marc Almond / The Velvet Trail / Cherry Red

I missed this when it was released back in March 2015, probably because it didn't get a USA release. For this album, Marc Almond collaborated with LA producer Chris Braide, long-distance via email. Braide wrote the music and performed the backing tracks, Almond wrote the lyrics and recorded the vocals, with some guitar and strings added later. It wasn't until after the album was complete that the two met, and Almond realized that Braide had performed backing vocals on Soft Cell's 2002 reunion album.

Musically, Almond fans like me should be happy. Pop songs, torch ballads, a fun duet with Beth Ditto, even some cabaret, in a strong thematic whole. Braide's contribution is also strong, offering sympathetic material for Almond, showing that he is capable of writing and producing a full album, instead of the "single track contribution to an album by committee" where he's been stuck.

I wish I'd known about this album nine months ago.

#tcot / Northern Spy Records

I bought this cassette-tape-only release a few months ago, and then promptly misplaced it. I recently found it again, and played it in the car while running errands yesterday. It is a single track (same on both sides of the tape) noise rock performance by the duo of singer/songwriter/writer John Darnelle of The Mountain Goats, and drummer/critic Christopher Weingarten of Parts & Labor. The music is pretty good, just a little less than great, and this is the first pre-recorded cassette tape I have purchased in decades.

Wow, cassette only release. Time warp! I hope this doesn't become a trend, I really don't want to have to purchase a cassette deck!

I think this release was part of the oddly-named Cassette Store Day in October 2015. Of course, I bought it at a record store, not a cassette store.

Wonderful spin. Thanks @chicks for pointing it out earlier in this thread.

Love the retro feel.

All Music gave it 4 Stars and an "Album Pick."

I agree.

Just watched a new Diet Coke commercial, recognized the singer instantly. Such a distinctive sound. First that great Apple ad with Stevie Wonder, now Coke, and recognition for her album. She's having quite a year.

I firmly believe that there is good music and there is great music, there is no bad music.
This release challenges that belief.
All Music mercifully left it unrated, I gave it 1/2 star, my lowest rating ever.
