After the untimely demise of the original and much loved Super Analog Stylus, earlier this year we unveiled the newly developed neoSAS line of premium quality replacement styli. The first series of the new product line, the neoSAS/S which replaced the boron cantilever of the first generation SAS with a solid crystallin sapphire rod, was released this July.

We are now excited to announce the release of the second installment of the product line, the neoSAS/R series with tapered ruby cantilever. Featuring the same laser-cut Super Analog Stylus natural diamond tip, one point tension wire suspension system, and specially forged samarium cobalt magnet of the neoSAS/S combined with a tapered ruby cantilever, the neoSAS/R represents our most technologically advanced series of replacement styli to date.

The four facets of the ruby are precision cut to gradually narrow toward the diamond tip along the longitudinal axis of the cantilever. This gives the neoSAS/R an even lower moving mass allowing the SAS tip to trace the record groove with improved precision, accuracy, speed, and fidelity.

The neoSAS/S and neoSAS/R, both hand crafted, offer the highest quality and sound reproduction performance available in a replacement phono stylus. Each has its own signature sound which will be enjoyed according to the particular application and individual taste of the user.

The sapphire version of the neoSAS are available across a diverse line of phono replacement styli spanning over 50 unique models.

$211 for the SAS/S stylus for a Shure M91ED. The old SAS was expensive too but I would have to look back in my records to what I paid a year or so ago. Good to see the product line did not disappear. Someone will need to do a side by side, old vs new. Will be interesting.....
 
Expensive yet but I like the idea that this exists, gives the consumer some real world upgrade paths.

Am I correct in assuming the performance of the SAS products goes something like this?

SAS (Boron) < NeoSAS Sapphire < NeoSAS Ruby??
 
That's what I gathered from the three notes I received from them, this morning. Not sure why I got three. They were all the same.
 
Wow, it's a $200 jump in price to get the Ruby cantilever over the sapphire! Too bad boron or beryllium are not an option any longer
 
After seeing the cost for the N97 replacement, I will be looking elsewhere for a replacement. It's nice to see Jico still in business.
 
Over $400... huh. I suppose it must be the tapering. IMO it would be a no brainer to go with the sapphire version, don't think they will sound that different.
 
Ruby and sapphire are the same material with different impurities. The other construction details probably account for the price difference, and the distinction is probably just being used for marketing purposes.

I suppose all Boron must be dedicated to the Doomsday effort...

I ordered a VN5MR SAS before the sold out to have as a spare, glad I did!
 
It's no doubt that the M97xe people are left out of any bargains, A new M97xe cartridge costs $99 from Needle Doctor. A N97xe stylus will cost you $97. Only $2 difference in cost, really? What's the advantage of buying a new cartridge over the replacement stylus? Where's the justification? Now let's look at the SAS variants. The N97xe neoSAS/S is $267 and the neoSAS/R is $467.

Those who still want to use their M97xe, the bargain for us will be the N97xVL Vivid stylus for $79.95. I may look into this after RSD Black Friday.
 
Might be a thing for the Shure V15-III and up folks, but these things would have to turn a more plebian cart into a giant killer LOMC threat to be worth considering.

I for one LOVE my VividLine replacement on my Shure V15rs , so much I may get one for my M97xe .

Right, I love the M91ED for what it is, but I can't imagine spending that much to put a stylus on it.

I agree--I have an M97Xe that I purchased brand-new for $80 and would not be willing to put 3X or 4X that into it just to upgrade the stylus--for that kind of total investment, I'd be into a totally different cart in a totally different "class". I will eventually have to pay $300-400 to retip my MC carts, but they are $1-2K carts.

Yes it's a bit pricy. I have a V15 type IV and I considered it at $160, but I'm not sure I'd spend $240, let alone $440 for the Ruby. I feel that some of the decent moving coil cartridges represent an upgrade, so I'd likely wait, save up and invest in a new moving coil cartridge.

It's a tough sell for sure, but the boron SAS I bought for an R47xt turned it into something that approaches a VMR w/ beryllium cantilever. Considering what the latter sells for (if you can find it), even the SAS/r starts to look pretty attractive if the cart body is already in hand.
