No, the stereo won’t break the crystal...Oh CRAP!
Just bought an Akai GX-220D from an estate sale. It was filthy, and probably hadn't been played in 20+ years. Spent the afternoon tearing it down, cleaning and lubing it, then cleaning all of the pots/switches/buttons. Just hooked it up, and it sounds and looks like it just rolled off the production line. You really have to hand it to the Japaneese engineers who designed and built these units. Almost 50 years later, and it is still plays flawlessly. The designers, engineers, and production folks are probably in their late 70s/80s if they are even still around...Just wish that gear was still made this way. Would guess that there is still this level of quality available, but it's beyond my means to own it. Love the mechanical aspects of this vintage gear. It's an era that is past, but so rewarding to be able to restore it - to both enjoy it, and honor those who created and originally built the unit. Great job Akai!
