New Tube crossover build - steampunk style

I got four boards from Gary Kaufman. I think he is out of them. But the boards are based on Steve Bench's design. I am still stunned at how go they sound. Here is what I pulled off Steve's website. You can also contact Gary to see if he has more boards.

This is a 3 pole tube electronic crossover. The Info file contains data to allow you to tailor it to your desired crossover frequency. Circuit values for various frequencies are contained in the Crossover information file, and the schematic is in the Schematic file.

Gary Kaufman [http://www.the-planet.org] has created a small PC board for the crossover. See him for details on availability and costs.

The little quote button next to the big "quote" button. Click it on any post you want to multi-quote, it will turn red. When you get to the last one you want to quote, either hit the big "quote" button for that post or the "post reply" button at the bottom of the thread. :thmbsp:

Thanks Sam.

that story was great.

surely there must be some glorious duty for that piece of history.

Yep, it will be front and center on the crossover.

I too, need to build a tube crossover. Do you have a circuit in mind? Schematic?

Yep, check out the links I just posted below.

what he said!

*takes notes*

Yep, what I said.

Yep, looked at that one too. I heard the Bench one and so feel better going with that.

Look I did multi-quotes!!!

I just got back from a machine shop I hang out at on Tuesday nights and I was telling Phil (the owner and friend) about the Spunk project. He reached into a draw and handed me this. Way cool ah? Pure silica bronze...must be worth a small fortune. I have plans to machine the hell out of it then polish it up.

I really have to figure out how to use the multi quote function.

Anyway, this is a tuba mouthpiece that some kids back in the 70s turned into a bowl for a bong, then it was siezed by the Michigan State Police, then it toured to schools as part of an anti drug lecture program until 2002, then a couple of friends of mine, drunk, stoled the box of parifinalia from the back of the cop car and it sat in Dell's barn until last year. Somehow just the mouth piece ended up in a bon fire, and last weekend he found it in the ashes. It was totally blackened and I cleaned it up nice and purddy. It is as nice as it ever will be at this point. See, everything has a story.

Now that's a good story...

Here is my latest find. This is not the actual one, but the same.

Here is link to my thread in Barter Town where this all started.

As I collect bits and pieces I will post pix here. This will all take time and when I feel I have enough to build, I will.

Dennis,
I tried the link above and here's what I got:

TerryO, you do not have permission to access this page. This could be due to one of several reasons:

Your user account may not have sufficient privileges to access this page. Are you trying to edit someone else's post, access administrative features or some other privileged system?
If you are trying to post, the administrator may have disabled your account, or it may be awaiting activation.

Is this actually the entry point to a secret society?

Hi Terry, you have to be an AK subscriber to see Barter Town. If you look under my avitar, you will see AK subscriber in a red box. That gives you access to Barter Town and a couple other things. It does not cost much and you get access to great deals posted by other AKers.

Hi All, This is a long term project. I have the pcbs for Steve Bench's 6DJ8 tube crossovers. We heard them a couple weeks ago and they blew me away. Much better than any over active I've heard.

There are two reasons that this is a long term project:
1. too many other project that need finishing
2. I can't seem to bring myself to stick all the parts in a square-ish chassis.

As for number 1, I may breadboard it and use it like that for a while. Breadboarding it would not take but a day if I had all the parts on hand.

As for number 2, I have desided to do a steampunk style chassis. If you don't know what that is, here are some pix and you can google the term as well.

The first pic is of the stuff I've got already and the next two just steampunk pix.

I'll be watching, I've got a pair of those boards too!

I won't be building it for a while as I am still collecting parts. Then when I have all the stuff I need, it will take a while to make the chassis into a piece of art.....then I'll wire it. I've got some cool stuff the other day. I'll post pix.

That's perfect, I've got this F-5, B-1, etc thing going on, with measuring system project back burnered for a couple weeks...:sigh:

I wouldn't get rid of them. I've had all the major pro and audiophile passive crossovers and these are the best I've hears. I should actually amend that statement. If you are going to get rid of them, send them to me:D:D:D

I thing Gary has run out of them.

He IS out of them! 'doh!

BUT, he is willing to do another run as soon as he has 10 people lined up to buy them.

I'm putting my name on the list. Who else is with me?

contact him here:

Wiring them point to point would be pretty simple, it's about as generic a circuit as you are likely to find. If for whatever reason, you need to have a tube crossover, Pete Millett has one that also gets glowing reviews as far as tube crossovers go.

What's the cost?, I may as well get another set to hold onto for a while.

Russellc

just $35.

good to know about the point to point. don't need a tube x-over, just want one. Millet doesn't appear to have boards either...

thanks.
