New Tubes for Yaqin MC-13s

Well, I know they are several years old with a lot of hours on them. I have two that never change and two that move around. Ive even switched positions and it's still the same two. So I figured a new quad set would make some difference

Yes, sounds like those 2 tubes are on their way out. I'm curious what difference the KT-77's will make. I can say without a doubt that the Shuguang EL-34B is a great tube and not that expensive if you decide to go that route when it's all said and done. I'd loan you a quad but I don't have any spares.

Thanks. From what I've read the EL34bs had some reliability issues. Sounds like you have had good luck though. I hate to spend $150 on Gold Lions but people rave about them. Mullards are around $100 and Tung Sol's probably aren't an improvement from what I have. The Shunguangs have to come from across the pond and the last thing I bought took 3 months to go through customs, which is a deterrent for sure.

That's interesting, I never heard of any reliability issues with the Shuguang EL34-B's. I've owned 4 quad's over 10 years and never had to replace any of them. Rock solid tube. My friend has his original quad from 8 years ago, listens daily and they still sound great and hold their bias. That's a great price on the Mullard's, I would certainly give them a try if you can get them from the U.S.

not cheap, but above and beyond all tubes mentioned are the Shuguang WE6CA7 plus red base tubes. a close second would be the shuguang 6CA7-T black glass bottles.

Don't forget the 6550. The Tung Sol reissue is a cool looking tube and has a little of that bulbous tubey sound if that's what you're looking for. The Svetlana's are balanced and detailed - if you can find them.

So the 6550's will work with the MC-13s?

The 6550's will NOT work with the 13S.
I've had one for about 2-1/2 years now. I've used the stock tubes, EH EL34B's and the Gold Lion KT77's. I went all Gold Lion reissues for the small tubes as well.
I can absolutely say the Gold Lion KT77's are, imo, the best power tubes I've used, with the caveat that they tend to be a bit more floaty in the bias than the stock blue bottles. So it's something to keep an eye on, if you end up checking them out.
I honestly didn't like the 1st quad of them I got. They sounded "weird" to me. Sold I sold them, which happened quick because of their reputation. About a year later I figured maybe there might be something to them if so many people seemed to like them, and I got another quad, figuring if I still didn't like them, after 50 hours, I could sell them pretty easily. After that I fell in love with them.

Never heard of them, I like that they are clear glass....very curious how they will sound....must resist buying them LOL
I've got some WEKT88 tubes in my amp and sound amazing ,that's coming from the Gold Lions. They have held bias much better then the GL,but they also took some time to burn in. They started off good, then lost mids and highs. Took way more time to break in vs the GLs. I've really enjoyed the WEKT88.

Amazon has the Shuguang WE6CA7 tubes and that's where I bought mine and they only sold them by the pair,so I contacted the seller about a quad set and they added them on Amazon's site for me. I paid a few bucks more to have them expedited and got them in a week.
