New Turntable with S shape arm and removeable headshell

Checked it, seems like it was just a platform for you to bash the thing.

Maybe it's just me, but if I were spending $1500 on a turntable, arm, and cartridge, as the OP stated he was willing to do, I'd expect its wow and flutter to be inaudible ... like the wow and flutter on the AR XA-91 I bought for $96 in 1974 when I was starting out in this crazy hobby. I'm confident that the Teac's 0.2% W&F would be painfully obvious to me on piano or oboe music, either of which does a fine job of revealing speed instability.

Well if a J type of tone arm is satisfactory, then the answer might be the Jelco arms. With the 370 or the 750 you get a removable head shell and a J arm. Should fit the price tag to where you can get something like perhaps a refurbished SOTA and stay within your price range.

Right now I kinda narrowed it down to the Music Hall 7.1 or the new
Pro-Ject 2Xperience SB DC. Any opinions on either of these two machines???

Definitely Pro-Ject 2Xperience SB DC

Jadran, that's kinda the way I was going. Any reason against the mmf 7.1?

First of all it does cost less! In Europe is just above 1.000 Euro.
But it's the new and improved version with;

New DC-powered synchronous motor with electronic speed control
Wow & flutter:+/-0,08%
Speed drift:+/-0,5%
9CC Evolution carbon-fiber tonearm
Ortofon 2M Silver moving magnet cartridge,..

Music Hall is similar, it has perhaps better plinth(?) but also has AC motor (!?)
Speed deviation:± 0.9%
Wow and flutter:±0.15 %

...
and it has the price of nearly $1.500USD !

i think the pioneer 1000 would suit you fine. i too prefer a detachable headshell and this gives you that option. it is easy to use and sturdy. some like the fact that it is direct drive, it will prove to be pretty much trouble free:

yes, some of those pro-ject and music hall tables are VERY good, the fact that you can mount more than one cartridge and be ready to swap them out easily is a big plus for me.

i once had an EXCELLENT vpi hw1900 with a SME IV tonearem and sumiko ho-output moving coil cart that i sold to get my current sota sapphire with sumiko MMT tonearm just because i NEED the ability to change carts. i have about five mounted and ready to swap.

whatever you do, it will probably be a big step from what you may have used before. nearly all the advice in this thread has been good so you are on the right path.

I kinda think a NOS Technics SL1200MkII or M3G would dance around all the new available models in every aspect of performance.

That would be an option, but I'd call George Merrill and check out his GEM Polytable. It hits all the right notes for your price point, and is superb. And does what you need very well.

Kent; I've lived with my PolyTable now for just over 2 weeks. I'm blown away!
Mine has the 10" SA-750 arm, and my Ortofon 2M Bronze. But; I first listened in George's shop to the $1,495.00 model PolyTable with a 2M Red. It smoked my Rega RP1 with my Bronze mounted. And, I carried in my Rega Fono Mini A2D so George could run the PolyTable through it instead of his Sutherland preamp. He told me that if I could find a preowned $10,000 table for around $1,500, it might sound better than the PolyTable! Lol!
George is very proud of his latest creation to be sure. :thmbsp:
He mentioned that he has already had a couple of PolyTable owners tell him he needs to double the price.
I just feel that I spent my money wisely. :)
On a side note; my PolyWeight, and cover should be ready any day.

And I am so happy you love your new PolyTable. One of my fellow engineers still has his Merrill Heirloom, which I really love. And if I ever own a belt drive again, I want something Merrill or a GEM PolyTable.

Really intrigued about the PolyTables. On paper they look exactly like the sort of thing I'd want. Kind of homely with that mop-water gray, though.... :)

Consider the Reloop RP-7000. It may be the performance king of current direct drive technology. At least it appears to be on paper.

Looks like it wont be long before these new Pro-Jects are available in the States!

Pro-Ject 2 Xperience SB was launched a year ago, as an upgrade of 2 Xperience. It was equipped with the tone arm 9cc Evolution.

The new model 2 Xperience SB S-shape has, as its name suggests, an S-shaped arm. S-arms is nothing new for Pro-ject. They already have the Signature Series With 3 models, in addition to the RPM-1 Carbon havings an S-arm without removable head-shell. We wrote about this player for just over a year ago.

The arm that sits on 2 Xperience SB S-shape is totally new, and is made of aluminum with a special alloy that according to the manufacturer should provide low resonances. Anti Skating is inspired by the one used in the 12-inch top model in the Signature Series.

It is of course removable head shell on this model, and head-shells are compatible with Ortofon / SME mount.

This arm is so far only equipped with 2 Xperience SB S-Shape, but it is tempting to assume a it will eventually be available on multiple players. And as a separate tonearm.

The price of Pro-Ject 2 Xperience SB S-shape is set to be around 1.295 UKP

I second the George Merrill GEM-Dandy PolyTable. :). $1,495.00 with the S shaped Jelco SA-250 tonearm with detachable headshell. Give George a call! He will be happy to tell you all about it.

But it's just so god damned butt ugly to look at. If you're like me it's paramount that it sound good, but it's almost as important that it looks just as good. Like a nice dinner, presentation is also a huge part of the enjoyment.

Why it has to be S-shaped arm and removable hs? :scratch2:

For that money you can get brand new Marantz TT-15S1 with Clearaudio Virtuoso Wood Ebony, that alone costs as this whole package!

Ever thought about the fact that he may need to play different types of records, with different stylus needs?. And that he maybe does not want a PITA rig to install a cartridge on when he wants different options. I am among those people who need that or the ability to use multiple tonearms.
