Why would you do this?Do you know of any advantage in doing so?Someone here will come up with an answer for you but you might have to wait some as for I,I wish I knew enough to help you out but 1 EQ in my system is all I need:)

If the 101b has a tape loop, you can use that also. EQ main out goes to 101b tape in (or play). EQ main in goes to 101b tape out (or rec).

As coonmanx also stated, the 101b's main out can go to EQ's main in, and the EQ's main out to the 202 main input. Both will work and do no damage, but using the tape loop gives less noise depending on your equipment.

Is this the model?

An equalizer with the lowest adjusted frequency 80 Hz will not allow to manage the most critical frequency band for market loudspeaker systems: neither compensate the lack of acoustic output in 30…60 Hz band, nor correct the room acoustics in this very important frequency band.
thanks for info and yes thats the model.i have to be honest i know very little about stereo stuff.so to be honest what you said about adjusted frequencys etc.i have no idea what any of that means.

thanks,it was easy way back when(1979) how to hookup amp to preamp/equalizer.could you elaborate on what gets hooked up to what etc?what in's to out's etc?thanks in advance

i want to thank everybody for there imput.if i can tomorrow i'll try to look at equipment and get on here with what hookups it has&maybe even takes some pix and see if i can put them on here....thanks again everybody:D

There you go.

thanks for the info, let me run a few things by you(if you don't mind)first thing i don't have my tape deck hooked up anymore.i have a cd player, turntable,a receiver hooked up to preamp/equalizer&seperate amp.i haven't got sansui equalizer from my nephew yet.in your drawing i'm thinking the reciever would be like my preamp/equalizer&amp?do i need to hook my tape deck up again to get things working right once i get the new equalizer?thanks

No. The "TAPE IN" connections are what's known as LINE LEVEL inputs, and are the same as the TUNER, AUX, & CD inputs. Only the PHONO inputs are not LINE LEVEL, so they are only used for turntables with magnetic cartridges.

pix of spectro acoustics 101b

not sure if it helps with hooking up.couple of pix coming in next message(max in this one)of sansui se-9

Tape 2 looks like 1/4" TRS jacks on there so you can't use that without adapters.

hook the Tape1 output of the preamp into the input on the equilizer. Then connect the EQ's output into the preamp's Tape2 input. In order to make the EQ effective, you have to select an input on the preamp that you want to output to the tape (EQ). Then engage tape2 (monitor) to hear the sound that is being altered by the EQ.

thanks for info, why would they make it like that(tape 2)?to me it looks like the rca ends are missing.so those 2 ends are called 1/4"trs jacks?would it do any good for me to look for adapters?if so,where should i look and exactly what to look for?thanks

Set the EQ on the 101b to "bypass" (or all sliders to 0db)
Hook up the SE-9 to the 101b as if it were a tape deck
Engage the "Tape Monitor" on the 101b
(If you have a tape deck, hook it up to the SE-9 as if the SE-9 were the receiver.)

If you hook up the SE-9 between the 101b and the 202, the spectrum display won't work properly.

Why would it matter which way it is hooked up with the spectrum display? I believe it should work either way as long as it is getting signal, which it is. EQ gets signal means spectrum display works. I have hooked my EQ up to both the tape out on the 7140 and also the pre out and in both cases the display works just fine.

TRS jacks are usually used for professional audio recording. This is one of those amplifiers that can be linked to a mixer board or an expensive reel to reel recorder. You can find adapters that go from 1/4" TRS to RCA everywhere. Try your local electronics store or RadioShack.
Alternatively you can order some online but it works just as well to use the tape1 outputs, because the tape2 output and tape1 output basically put out the exact same signal.
Heres an example of what those adapters would look like:

When you hook up through the tape loop (or a processor loop) the EQ gets full line level signal. If you hook the EQ to the pre-out it gets a variable output signal. If the EQ has a real spectrum display and not just dancing lights, the readout will go up and down as you adjust the volume. At low volumes it won't even be on the scale.

(Is also a useless hookup if you need to EQ to tape)
