Newbie - Mixing new with vintage, & ohms question

Ok, I really did do a deep look to try to figure this out.

I got in to my garage a couple of weeks ago, and found my old JBL L1's. Now, these are the only thing that survived a total loss house fire back in 2010, and only because I had taken them to a buddy's to try them on his system the week before.

I went looking for them after stumbling on an auction at the state university, where I snagged 3 (THREE!) Technics SP-series turntables no one else bid on, and snagged for $250 for all three.

Not what this long-winded thread is about, but let's say I strut outta that sale! Now what to do with them? Another day...

A week after pulling the L1's out of the boxes and bringing them in, a buddy gave me his Yamaha R-S202 for helping him with a job.

Hooked the pieces together... Amazing!

Now, here's where I'm lost.

Today, I found a SpeakerCraft BassX-12 at my kid's apartments. Tenant had left it when they abruptly left. Gal in the office let me have it for $25 (what the heck, take a chance it works!)

I have looked high and low, and can't find anything that tells me if I can run the speaker cables from the Yamaha Amp (rated at 8 ohms) into the Line-Level in's on the BassX-12 (rated at 4 ohms), and then wired to the L1's (rated at 8 ohms) from the sub's Line out's.

Will it produce no sound? Will it burn down another house? Will Steve admit he knocked up Kim on the Kardashian's???

Inquiring minds are desperate to know!

No line level. Run you speaker outs of the Yamaha to speaker level in, then speaker level out to your speakers. The sub should not be a 4 ohm load. Where did you see this spec?

I did say the BassX was a 4 ohm load. That's what is shows on the manual, in the link I attached.

Sorry, I didn't word it right, but I did mean I was planning on running to the speaker levels in from the amp to the sub, and speaker levels out to the L1's, as it showed in the manual's diagram.

What I don't know, and was wondering, was whether having different ohm ratings between the equipment would be an issue.

Apparently their subwoofer drivers are 4 ohm which is pretty common, but they are being driven by the subwoofer's internal amplifier so your receiver would not be seeing that load.

I notice they warn the user don't get those speaker level connections swapped or you could short your receiver or amp output.

The owners manual for the Yammy says 8 ohm only for speakers. Running 8 ohm speakers with a 4 ohm sub is risky. Whoops, I just noticed it says "except for North America model", so I don't really know what that means. Manual doesn't specify difference in models.

Powered subwoofers are seen as a benign load, nothing to worry about. Have twin Dayton Audio Sub 1200's connected through the high level speaker inputs in the multi-channel system to good affect.

You can also use A speaker outputs for the JBLs and B speaker outputs for the SpeakerCraft subwoofer, this will allow you to easily switch the sub in and out.
