That's a nice one.
I love these old XA's.
I have an original one in walnut (with perfect dust cover and headshell yet) that I friend at work gave me some months back that is on my Winter list of restorations.
You're giving me inspiration to unpack it and get started.

They are basic without all the extras and work 99.9% of the time.. I have two working and a few parts ones in storage.

Happy Holidays...

I dropped mine 2 weeks aftrer I bought it, sheared off the motor spindle and the tone arm rest, which is nothing more than a puny lightweight plastic stick with a cradle on top for the 'arm. I cried real tears after doing it. Now I'm waiting for Hurst to build me a synchronous motor like the one I destroyed ($68 w/shipping) trying to install the AR XA into a stereo cabinet when a shelf dropped on me! Needless to say it will go BESIDE the cabinet this next time out! No more risk of ruining the second motor!!! The tone arm rest is another project for some epoxy and a steady hand... I'd rather admire the pretty wood plinth than bury it in a cabinet I'd fight to get a rekkid playing anyway.

That's an interesting solution to the broken arm rest in that pic. Mine came with that oil container stuck to the plinth. It was empty and broke apart when I tried to pull it off of the plinth.
michaelhigh, if you kept the remains of your armrest there are threads about using the leftover parts to make a new armrest. I think the one I read the guy used a chunk of an antenna screwed to the plinth. The leftover top of the original armrest fit into the antenna piece. There are some people that are more happy with the custom version than with the original. I'm not one of them. My table has the original and I don't plan on breaking it, knock on wood.

Made 'em. I'll start another thread tomorrow rather than hijack this one.

Very nice job! I don't know who did the other one I am fixing. I was just securing the loose RCA connections and the tonearm setup.

Thanks,
