Volts are already DC by the time they go to the choke. Those Valvos have some hours on them, but they're still too cool for school.

I know this thread is old but I just scored one of these today. Would have liked to keep it as is but just do not have the room. Seller said his dad paid over 1200.00 in 1961 . (Can that be true?) Pretty excited and the best thing about it was it was 50.00. I have already gutted it and painted the transformers and choke I broke down the cab and salvaged/resawed the useable wood. I'm thinking of trying the altec lansing 345a circuit. I have one started using a stromberg carlson stereo 60/asr-444. I think it might be cool to have two from different amps. anyway, I'm sure you all understand I had to gloat to people who can appreciate it. The tweeters are Electrovoice t20b horn tweeters the mids have been replaced cause they are a newer vintage Realistic 5.25" mids 12" woofer Jensen(DWF8 and 19-120004-10 marked on frame) Here is as very similar console

So burwood... I think you moved forward on that amp project... how was the sound? was it worth the effort? and how did the Electro project compare to the SC project, thinking the iron would be the only difference. It would be a great thread I would love to hear about - as I have the same donor amps but struggle to break up 'classics' for new projects. I would love your insights!
