Nice Luxman gear on CT CL

For that kind of coin you you could buy much nicer. Example:

Classe CA-200 or CA 201 amp at about $1000

Classe or Krell lower end older preamp......Classe would start at about $500 and krell at $750-$1000.

Positively blow those Lux pieces out of the water.

Do you have personnel experience with all of the above including the Luxman?

If anyone does it's Beemer!

The 200, and 201 are going to be tough to find for the price he is mentioning. Maybe the 200.
Not that I would pay the prices for anything mentioned in this thread.

I realize that you are relatively new here, but Paul (beemer) has likely owned more very high-end gear than I'll ever even see in my lifetime. If beemer has an opinion on a particular piece of gear, I'd certainly give it a fair bit of merit.

Then basically as I see it you will never know what better gear is capable of.

No offense to anyone here, however time after time you find folks with 20 pair of $50 "scroe" speakers, a pile of mediocre receivers or separate preamp/amp combos and such. :scratch2::smoke:

For clarity, an individual may have 20 pair of $50 speakers, math says that's $1000. Add the money also spent on the pile of receivers, preamp/amp combos and middle of the road 70's turntables, and suddenly there goes $2000+ over time. Certainly there's fun to be had with a pile....lord knows I've been there myself.

Bottom line is that if one can practice some fiscal responsibility, instead of chasing another $50 toy......toss the $50 in the cookie jar. After not a lot of time you find that gear you may not consider is now within reach.....and one good system in a room not cluttered with piles sounds much better.

I'm with Beemer on this one.
Stuff that's more expensive, as a rule of thumb but not always, is worth more money.

Don, not so much what it is worth as how it sounds.

Gear serves the music. Bad synergy and mismatched components at any price range can sound horrid.

But some of those piles in my listening room are actually making the room sound better!!

I agree totally with the idea of grabbing good stuff and have bought a fair number of better pieces but nothing like the amount of gear you have had the opportunity to audition.

You are completely wrong as far as I am concerned. And the $50 usually turns into $200, $300, $400 or more.
I thought the $50 I spent on the AU 919 was well spent. I could rattle off a list of stuff I have picked up right up the street from where I live for a pittance, and sold for a tidy sum.
Don't make assumptions about someone unless you know them. :thumbsdn:

Excellent. I'll stand with my previous post. I know you better than you think I do. :thmbsp:

I didn't word that well. When I said the $50 turns into I meant profit.
There was a time that I was horrible with saving money. I am very frugal now.
And I will agree with some of what you said about buying lots of junk.
But even a low dollar working receiver in nice shape if I can get it cheap enough is easy money profit wise.
Yes, I have seen people that are addicts. They think they can buy to flip, or because they like it, and end up with an absurd amount of vintage gear sitting around. I mean they are looking at all kinds of stuff that is crap!
When I found the Sansui I flipped a Citation 22 for a $225. Had $10 in the Citation. Something comes in, something goes out.
I wasn't even sure I would like the 919. I just knew in working condition it was a home run for $50. It has really impressed me with my $10 Tannoy Studio Monitors. :D

Luxman made a really powerful Tube Amp back in the early 80's I believe. I saw one a few years ago sell for about $800 in great shape, and though it was a bargain.

I have to agree with beemer re not purchasing multiple low/mid end audio equipment where someone could of purchased a high end unit to start with that was way better for the same amount of money.
