Nice Marantz Score! (LOTS of pics)

Yea, $15,500 was the number. It's great no matter which way you look at it.

My initial auction, which originally allowed for international buyers, was pulled in fear that I'd get screwed by someone overseas. Too bad, because the same guy who paid $15,500 for them had initially offered me $20,000 on that first auction. I was too nervous about the whole thing and relisted for US only.

Looks like they were just delivered today. Hopeful that everything went well during shipping. It took me 3 hours to pack them! Triple reinforced with industrial cardboard in a commercial high-load rated box with dense styrofoam and 1/2" sheets of insul-foam for the bottom support. I also wrapped the amps themselves three times with bubble wrap for added cushion, and sleeved them in styro fabric.

Well Congrats TK, I hope you find a nice 8B to use for the future. Hopefully, the $$$$ will provide some stability for the family, and that counts for a lot.

Hope to someday be able to find a pair of 9's to work with. Good luck with your career and keep dropping in here at AK!

I thought I'd bump this up for my Marantz brethren and inform you of an interesting update....

No, I did not find another pair of 9s....yet :)

I just inherited a pair of McIntosh MC30 amps from my father. Aside from being dirty and oh-so-slightly tarnished on the chrome chassis, they appear only to need a little TLC, some cap swaps, and maybe a replaced tube here or there.

It's funny how these things work themselves out. I go back and forth for over a year about selling the 9s, I finally do (with some regret of course), and then two months later I end up with another free pair of golden age american made tube audio gear!

I've started a new thread in the Mc forum, but I thought I'd let you all know that I'm not 100% out of the game. I also intend on using the Marantz 7T I held onto as the preamp; don't see why not!

I'm subscribing to this thread so I can finish it later but I would treasure these pieces forever. they would be in my will. and as a huge fan of vintage sound i would listen to them regularly.

interestingly, i recently came across a marantz 2220b through a friend. i plan on using it as the centerpiece in my living room setup and it will always remind me of my dad who always had marantz receivers. I feel very good about the $150 I'll be paying for it so you must be on cloud nine. just dont look a gift horse in the mouth these things usually happen for a reason

That is a once in a lifetime find, hold on to those forever, simply beautiful pieces. I have found some really, really nice scores over the years but super jealous right now!

Well done dude - really pleased for you!

I'd definitely keep hold of the Macs now, purely for sentimental reasons.

Just think of the story your system can have told about it to the next generation!

Bump for a most interesting thread. For those of you who haven't seen it, you're in for a real treat if you can read through the entire thread.

5 year anniversary of finding and getting them, for FREE! 1 year anniversary of them being sold.

And 1 year anniversary of Teleking getting married!!:banana:

If you're out there Teleking, hope you are doing well, the marriage getting even sweeter, and the band playing on.

And thanks for your once in a lifetime story. I know Crooner has followed in your footsteps!

Score of a lifetime for sure. Can't believe it's been five years!
I am happy to have joined the ranks of the fortunate few who own Marantz 9's.
However mine weren't free.
I do agree with bktheking, I wouldn't have parted with that pair. And I will most likely be buried with mine... :D

In any event, I'm going to bring them into a hi fi shop this weekend that was recommended to me by my amp tech. I spoke the owner on the phone, and he was very helpful and seemed very knowledgeable. I should be able to get an exact quote on how much it will cost to get these up and running. I hope there are no OT/PT issues.

Congratulations on your incredible find!

I found this thread by chance and read the whole thing.

First of all, I have to say that I feel the OP to be a very sincere and kind man. Most people would've not openly post about such find - research whatever he can and quickly flip them for $$$. By posting it here, he has entertained thousands of readers, and thank you for that. Didn't another AK'er win that auction?

Hey guys!

Figured I'd check in! I miss the 9s, but landed a nice 8B earlier this year that I'm loving. It doesn't look the same or have the same story as my beloved 9s did, but at least I get to enjoy one of the best tube amps ever made! It's definitely comparable in sound to its bigger brother(s), so that helped take some of the sting out of losing such a beautiful sounding pair of amps.

I also recently landed a 6300 from my younger brother, who found it in the trash! It's missing two feet but looks to be in great overall shape, so I'm going to get that up and running! Now I'll have a 6300 > 7T > 8B chain to enjoy!
