Nikko 9095 and Baby Advent ii

Hi all. I'm new here and new to the world of vintage audio after a lot of time off due to the digital invasion. Just recently grabbed a Pioneer SL-12D TT and looking for a receiver and speakers to complete the vintage, warm sound I am after. Found a Nikko 9095 and Baby Advent ii speakers from a local seller. Both are in great shape but am curious if pairing them together would create any issues? I already have a pair of Cerwin Vega AT-8s (1990 vintage, I just refoamed) that I would like to use to stack with the Baby Advents. Would the Nikko have any issues supporting one or both of these speakers, or conversely, would the speakers not work with the Nikko. A little confused on the impedance ratings on each of these and how they might all work together. Thanks in advance.

Welcome.

First, about running multiple sets of speakers: Be careful.

When you run two pairs of speakers in parallel, the load seen by the amp drops. The formula to calculate this is ((r1 X r2) / (r1 + r2)), or, in your case. ((8 X 6) / (8 + 6). or (48 / 14), or about 3.4 ohms.

A lot of amps don't like a four ohm or lower impedance. Dunno how forgiving that receiver is. Be careful.

Once you reconcile that fact, stacking isn't an issue. If you like the sound, go for it.

But, this really should have been posted in the "general" forum. This wasn't a tuner issue. It more concerned the receiver/amplifier and speakers. But, you're new. You'll learn.

Thanks Skipper. Yep, already learned a lot. I appreciate the schooling. My original question was simply to ask if the Nikko 9095 would pair well with the Baby Advent ii speakers, and less about running speakers in parallel. But if I may, the Nikko 9095 allows for multiple sets of speakers...A, B, A+B, A+C. If I ran both sets of speakers out of separate channels, is this the same as running them “parallel”? If not, does the formula you provided above still apply?

Separately, is there a way for me to move this post to the General Forum or does that require a moderator? Thanks again.

They are still in parallel. They are not separate channels. You've only got two amplifiers in that.

Now, a very, very, few receivers will run them in series, which is safe, but you need to wait for someone to verify that's the case or not. I wouldn't count on it though

I gave you the starter course on speaker impedance. If you want more info that, here's a good resource: https://geoffthegreygeek.com/calculator-speakers-in-parallel/

When you say "pair well", I assume you mean without blowing anything. If you mean sound wise, everyone has their own opinion. Mine is that the speaker contributes about 99% of the sound and the electronics about 1% and I prefer the sound of one speaker pair at a time. YMMV.
