Hi Nikkoman .. I do not have myself any quick ideas but i can help with the service manual if that will help you trace out the circuits

Nikko man did you ever get your red protection light off?
what was the issue with it?

come on man ;-) we are resurrecting the thread to find out lol

these are a real find and RARE .. i have been watching the pricess escalate on Ebay there is one now for 699 which is less than the last two i have seen sell for ) very cool

I sold Nikko gear in a stereo shop that I worked in back in the 1980-1982 time frame (during college). Our tech was always raving about the parts, how well they were made, etc. and their gear always sounded great. I've not heard any Nikko gear in about 30 years, but I would think that many of the pieces are real sleepers and sound quite good still. We also sold Toshiba, Tandberg and Crown, AR, Burhoe, EV, etc. IIRC we sold more Nikko and AR than anything else.

SoundMig very cool... I have the Nikko NR-1415 and next to it awaiting some restoration work (it was not treated kindly) is a Toshiba SA-7150 .. I will be excited to give them a fully restored A/B comparison unfortunately that 7150 will need to wait a while i have a long list of projects Ahead of it. My parents had a tiny Toshiba SA-3500 bought about the time you were working (1981 i belive) and something about how it sounded .. i just loved listening .. a year later i bought my own a big sansui and was forever frustrated by their toshiba at half the price and half the wattage sounding much better lol

how was your experience in the stores at that time?

Michigannick …. The Toshiba's of that time were underrated but really strong. Toshiba parts were found in EVERYONE's gear back then and the Toshiba power transistors (red lettering on the TO3's) of that day were excellent. Toshiba was a tougher sell, because it was not as well known as Yamaha, Hafler, Pioneer, McIntosh and even Nikko. But, those who bought it were always very happy with it. I don't recall ever getting any Toshiba back for repair - now that I think about it.

I didn't know it back then, but that was the "golden years" of audio. I had a blast as I worked in the store about 25 hours a week, attended college (Baylor) full time and did some pro-sound gigs on weekends. I also did all of the "event" sound mixing at the university's largest auditorium. Used a lot of Crown, BGW, JBL, Altec, EV, Frazier, etc. back then. I remember the amp racks for PA systems used to weigh so much that it took 4 strong guys just to unload them off of the truck! Now we have high-tech power supplies and Class D amps that produce 4x the power at 1/4 the weight. Oh well!!!
