NIKKO SOUND SYSTEM, SET UP HELP!

in case you haven't searched, it's hard to find a thread on cabling vintage Nikko gear including an ATD-1 ..
IMHO it is better to start a new thread.. Easier to find info if it isn't hidden in another thread.
Which preamp (is it a Beta 30?)
Which eq?
A lot of times you can't cover all the combos optimally, and a lot depends on the switching functions of the preamp. Is there a processor loop? How flexible are the tape monitoring and dubbing switching?

Alpha 650 amp, Beta 600 preamp, EQ 25, Gamma 400 tuner, and ATD-1. A Carver power controller is pictured with the Nikko gear as I could never find a Nikko NPS-1 controller all in an AudioRax double bay rack. On top is all my Pioneer gear starting with the SX-1980. In the process of getting it all cabled up and connected to my HPM-150 speakers. ... the 1980 and the 150's I've had for 20 years, the rest aquired over last 4 or 5 years

Can't find a manual for the beta 600, but based on the pictures it looks like it is capable of doing nearly everything. There are two processor loops. The big questions is how extensive the switching is. If you don't use the ATD-1 or the equalizer for recording, it looks like you can run them both through the processor loops. If you use them to record, the switching may not work correctly - depends on whether or not the processor loop can be inserted before the tape monitor switching. It looks like putting the processor on source will process the signal before the tape circuits, but not clear if that is for both. (if it is only one, normal usage is to put the EQ in that processor slot). And it's not clear which processor it goes through first, if both processors are selected, but that is what the manual is for. Time for some experimenting, (and some patience). FWIW if you only using one tape deck, I would hook up the EQ through the second set of tape inputs, and the ATD through one of the processor loops. Then use the dubbing function to either eq the recording or EQ the playback. A lot depends on how exactly the processor loops are switched and wired. Good luck with it.

I don't think I'll connect a taped deck at all to the NIKKO. I'll keep it with the Pioneer gear. Man ... I did this stuff in the previous century, but I'm struggling on it now. Still trying to figure it out. I just got maybe enough cables (probably not). From what I've read, the ATD-1 requires use of a second amp and separate pair of speakers that can be of lesser power and size. I downloaded and printed some manuals off HiFi Engine. One is a Beta 400 manual but it's really poor quality almost unreadable.
