I am getting a Nikko NT-850. Anyone else have one or have experience with one? Any mods that should be considered?

I live in rural N Kalifornia and am trying to suck in stations with hill in the way.

I am not familiar with that model but I have owned a Nikko Gamma V tuner since the late 70's and have been VERY satisfied with how it functions (others have come and gone and the Gamma V is still in the rack).

Here is a review that covers the model you are interested in

Nikko Tuner? You WILL Like!

I've had a Nikko receiver (NR-1015) that had a really fine tuner - amazing for the price of the unit even new. Now I have a Gamma V and it is on all day and most of the evening, thrilling me hour after hour. I am sure if it's from Nikko's glory days (and the model number looks like it is) I am sure you'll love the sound and the sensitivity out of the box. The mountain is another matter, however.

I had one, bought it at a thrift, sold it thru a friend.
Echowars had one for sale....
I played with it a bit, as I recall it was a decent middle of the road analog tuner, silver faced.

I have a plan - sort of?

EchoWars replied to a PM. His is long gone and he does not remember the output buffer configuration, so, I emailed my radio tech and he is looking to get it on the bench to see what it can do. I'll put it in along with my Sansui Classique 700 and see what we get :scratch2:

Right now my Mitsu DA-r20 is in getting serviced and aligned. After more than 30 years, its due :)

I also ordered one the of the little Sony HD tuners getting good reviews in the other thread. I figure I'll pair them - the Sony for HD and distant stations that are noisy, the the Nikko for stronger ones. Mix and match - it's all fun :)
