Nitty Gritty, Inc. has closed its doors

So, I thought we were in some sort of vinyl revolution/revival? NG is going away, so who's next? :(
 
Sad! I'm taking a wild guess here but judging on past experience, in 24 months NG RCM's are going to be
sold for sums previously inconceivable by the maker and replacement parts prices will skyrocket as if they're
made of rare earth metals. Irony at it's best!
 
KABUSA states "After 39 years, Nitty Gritty Inc, has closed it's doors."
Nitty Gritty website says it was established in 1981 and incorporated in 1982. This doesn't add up. With the compay website still up, I am not trusting KABUSA's statement.
 
The "no platter, slit in base" design looks more and more idiosyncratic in the face of increased competition in the world of RCMs brought about by the vinyl resurgence.

I bought a used Nitty Gritty after a friend's VPI made me a believer in RCMs. Unfortunately, once I had it, I wasn't too interested in putting any money towards a refurb and moved it along. Still lusting after a VPI 16.5 (or similar), though.
 
I had the pleasure to speak with Gayle when ordering parts for a couple NG RCMs that I was overhauling and later passed on to fellow AK members. Like KAB I have a feeling that NG is operated by Gayle with possibly the assistance of a family member. Hopefully someone will step forward and purchase the NG company from Gayle.
 
Different tastes for different folks. To me all the rest looks strange. I am glad I got a Nitty a year or so back. Fantastic device.

According to a forum post on organissimo, after a member tried to contact the company a bunch of times, he was advised to contact a Dallas area dealer. Apparently the dealer told him that industry insiders have been in the know for a while and that Gayle "suffered a career ending stroke several months ago and the company is indeed shuttered". A shame. Someone should at least update the website to say at this time no further orders or service requests accepted; more information to be released in the fututre...OR SOMETHING... Wish her the best.
 
Love my NG. Does the job, tough as nails. Never had a desire to own anything else. Sorry to hear about Gayle. She was a great person to do business with. Very customer oriented.

The temporary or permanent loss of Nitty Gritty is a serious problem for me, as the implementation of a record cleaning machine is arguably the genetic cornerstone of serious record playing in my life, as opposed to the ignorance of yesteryear. I trust that KAB will fill the gap.
 
Yup Gayle helped immensely and made things right when one of her dealers (elusive disc) was trying to push a 220V model as 110V.
