No audio output

Hey guys

I'm new here and unfamiliar with electronics so please bear with me.

I have A samsung receiver model: HT-AS730S that is not producing sound through the speakers.

Subwoofer is working and when i plug in my headphones in the jack they work as well

how do I troubleshoot from here. I have a multi meter

See if there is any "factory reset" procedure to clear any settings. I assume you have tried unplugging it for a power cycle already.

Any clicks or pops when you turn it on?

I have tried the on/off switch which does cut power, but I'll try unplugging it. Never thought of a reset. I'll investigate on how I might do one.

As far as pops or clicks, do you mean from the speakers or from the unit itself?
 
This unit was working at some point while in your possession? Or is it something you just picked up and can't get it working?
 
When did it stop producing sound to the speaker(s)? Did you do anything different from when it did work to when it it didn't? More information would be good.

Page 56 of the manual describes the reset process.
 
I hadn't used in roughly 2 months. It was just sitting in its cabinet. When I went to use it I plugged in the hdmi output cable to the monitor from the receiver and the input hdmi cable into the pc tower. I had sound for roughly 5 min while I played with the receiver settings and then it cut out. Headphone jack works, sub works, and when I set the hdmi audio to tv the, TV speakers work fine. I did find a disconnected speaker wire after the sound cut out, but when I reconnected it no change.

I've checked the settings multiple times to double check surround settings etc, but even then I should at least be getting my side speakers to work.

I did a reset using the manual and unplugged the unit. No change
 
Can anyone explain what that "goo" is that is all over those components? I though it was evidence of a failed capacitor, but I just opened up a subwoofer plate amp for some troubleshooting and find the same kind of stuff. Is it just to keep the components fixed in place?

@neufeld307 - it does look like one of the components got hot. Right in the middle of that first pic is what looks like something gone bad. That goo looks discolored.
