Noob on a budget looking for advice on speakers

Hey, just noticed a pair of Monitor Audio Silver RS6's with the matching center channel for just at top of your budget in Tacoma. I think the seller is a little optimistic and they've been posted for 3 days. I sold mine for 3/5 of that price if you get my meaning. You might be able to get them a little cheaper and sell the center on eBay.

Anyway, they are fantastic speakers. I really enjoyed the pair I had and they did everything well. As long as that metal dome tweeter is really broken in (and there's no reason it wouldn't be by now) it is exceptionally smooooooottttthhhhh!. And I got very satisfying bass out of those twin 6.5 woofers. I ran mine on a vintage 80w PSE amplifier and never ran out of steam.
Best home theater in the neighborhood and my second favorite speakers in the house, but I thought that the original idea in this thread was to go with a vintage theme. Those ones in Tacoma are a sweet deal.

Dayton Audio MK422T for $240 (price changes)
Elac Debut 2.0 B6.2 for $250 (on sale)
Sony SSCS5 for $73 (on Amazon)
Sony SSCS3 for $98 each (on Amazon)

On the used market....I would look for Polk Monitor 7 or 10, Dynaco A25.

What’s home theatre?
You know I'm the first one to badmouth Surround 5/7/9/11.1 as an overrated parlor trick mainly good for fattening the estate of Ray Dolby, but for old gummers like myself, it can be a Godsend. With an industrial hearing loss, I'm at odds with everyone else on the volume level just so I can catch some dialog once in awhile. In walks the center channel that can be adjusted independently of the music/action/boom channels, and suddenly the British are speaking English in my home theatre.

Haven't worked with the Stage A180s- but I have worked with the slightly smaller Stage A170.

IMHO, the Stage A170 is about the best off-the-shelf speaker system I know of in current production, for less than $500 a pair. They just don't do anything really wrong, and do a lot of things right. I've seen and heard them used with anything from a $199 Yamaha receiver, all the way up to a $1500 Rogue Sphinx hybrid amp- and they did well on all of them.

I'd say the A180 would be worth a listen, given that.

Regards,
Gordon.

For fun....I pulled my Luxman R-113 out of garage duty and hooked up the MK422T. The Luxman pushes them in a way my Optonica doesn't.
