NOS Sunbeam Toaster and Appliances

Dan ʕ•ᴥ•ʔ

Peanut Head
I was recently given this NOS (still sealed in its box!) Sunbeam #3806 chrome toaster.
It's quite heavy and was made in this place called "USA". How do you pronounce that?
Anyways, it makes perfect toast! Anyone have any cool old toasters that they'd like to share?

I love them old chrome toasters. Wish I had room for one. My counter is full. Only bad thing about them old toasters are, people will see who took the foto. I'm glad Celt had his pants on.

I have the same one. I came upon it from my grandmother. She got it with S&H greenstamps. Anyone remember those?

Yep, used to have a store here. We'd go with mom to trade in books of stamps and get stuff. We also used Gold Bond stamps, man that's been a while now.

I wouldn't be surprised if there wasn't still some stamps around here, I know there's still books of WWII ration stamps.

Cool... That falls under the category of "they just don't make things like they used to".

When I was a kid family friend had an old toaster that you stuck the bread in a slot on one end and the toaster sort of walked it through to the other end. It had a side window so you could watch the bread toast. At the time I thought it was about the coolest thing ever. WAY better than the dull chrome top loading Sunbeam that we had. I've never seen anything like since.

Vintage toaster collecting is a really big deal for a surprisingly large number of people.

Anybody else remember getting a toaster with a new account at the local bank?

I remember Green Stamps quite well. The ex and I got a ton of stuff with Green Stamps. The local grocery had a "double stamp" day every week. That's the day we always went grocery shopping.

Speaking of stamps... Who here remembers Buckeye Premium Stamps? I recently came across of of their catalogs in a box of old papers and magazines. It's a hoot to flip through.

We had S&H Green Stamps at one store and Quality Stamps at several others.
I still have a few items that I got from saving the Quality Stamps.

We have been using a T-20B for the past 18 years.
After the addition of a new power cable and a calibration, the toaster became a part of our family.
Also have a backup T-20B.

We once had a Sunbeam similar to Celt's, but I stupidly sold it for low $$$.

I got a gorgeous Sunbeam T-9 Toaster from Sanford12 last year -
threw out the BPC toaster we had before.
The sunbeam is such a gem, got a jewel on the front that lets the light of the redhot coils inside shine through when its toasting -
and you can set it so the toast stays down and keeps warm longer when the coils shut off.

It inspired me to find other matching pieces to go with it, from the sugar-creamer set to a percolator and an old vacuum coffeemaker.
I've also got an old chrome Sunbeam mixmaster I use ever year to bake cookies , and my parents original Sunbeam waffle iron.
Everything is in working condition - but I do make daily coffee with something else ...

The Sunbeam vacuum pots are pretty but they make lousy coffee because the first coffee to hit the bottom is inevitably burned and evaporated by the too-hot surface. It's not a fixable problem. The bottom half makes one hell of an electric kettle, though.

I want a T-9 toaster. I have 2 of the T-20 Sunbeams but I'm not too satisfied with the toast.

I found a 6-slice Dualit toaster here in Hong Kong. Dualit is the UK version of the Sunbeam, very expensive when new and a favorite of professional chefs -- all heavily chromed and polished stainless steel, all hand-assembled. The kind of thing that you can strip down by hand, clean and polish and re-assemble, and you have essentially a brand new toaster, even if it's fifty years old. (Of course, any heating elements may eventually need replacement, after umpteen heat/cool, expand/contract cycles.)

Unfortunately, the 6-slice model is way too big for our current (small apartment) kitchen, but I keep looking and looking for the 2 smaller-slice version (about like those Sunbeams). I did find a decent Chinese copycat in real steel, but it just didn't have the same quality, so I passed on it. One day...

Mines not a Sunbeam, but I do have a Toastmaster I bought, I'm guessing in the 70's. It has the coil eye on top. By the way, I'm a dumbass. I just looked at your pics again and saw waffle baker on the front.

I go through spurts with waffles. I eat them for awhile, then I will put it up for a year. I do need to use that Maple syrup I have in the fridge. Nice looking knives. What are they?

WOW! I have a similar one of those too, from the 50s, my Dad cooked them when I was growing up,
still works like a champ when I use it, but its not in the shape yours is in!
last time I used it we made waffles and poured Indian Butter Chicken over them for dinner - Gawd, that's good eating!
