Not A Score, But Not "Outrageous" Either--SX-950

True. But a lot of people have no past attachment at all. I recognize them for what they are. A well built appliance from the past that provides a service like the new not so well made units. That's not going to be age specific as time go on. And the units die fast than we do.

As I originally posted--not a score, but not outrageous either--I recently saw a refurbed SX-1980 (fully documented) actually sell for $4K. There is a Sansui 9090db (supposedly never touched/repaired, but working) on FB marketplace in the same local area as the SX-950 for $950. Sorry folks--these prices are REAL for the "big three"--Pioneer, Marantz, and Sansui. Apparently, advertising in the 70's is still paying off--who said brainwashing doesn't work?

I can see 4K for the 1980. How many were made?
But my little Sansui 5000A is a surprise at $500. I didn't see that coming anytime soon.

I paid 29.00 for my SX-950, PL-530 and CT-F9191. Doesn't mean they should all be at that price.

Seems he's "asking" 500 plus what he paid for service.

About five years ago an electronic repair shop was closing and they had a clean SX950 for $100 to fix.I was up to my neck in totl and upper tier receivers and didn't feel the need to pick this up.Had I known what was to become with the vintage receiver market.

I would've saved every rusted out Holden 2 door Monaro body if I knew that a $50~$200 would turn into $40,000 investment.

Then if we all had a crystal ball all this would never happen would it ?

He may not get it. Honest but needs an editor .
He would get it if there had been more done to it .
My 850 was less and it is an electrical masterpiece with way more done to it . That was a great buy but I initially resisted .
In September there were 3 SX 1010s on eBay that were restored . And almost a fourth lol . They ranged from 1500 to 1100 . And remain unsold . There are not as many buyers as you think .

Sounds like alot people think lots of this stuff is overpriced?? If you do simply move on and dont open up your wallets... If others do pay their prices then that is what the market bears.. I personally love seeing high prices for stuff. As I have lots of TOTL gear and if those prices are met with buyers the values go up. If not and I wish to sell for a fair amount less than those supposedly inflated prices than I look like a bargain by comparison.. That my friends is a win win.. That is unless the ones complaining dont own much of this TOTL gear and feel the valuations are absurd because they cant or want to pay the entrance fee...

I suggest the level of absurd is yet to be determined and will be effected by the production #s.
The 2 that sold in the upper 3’s had NO description of what was done. No data sheets . Nothing . My 1010 will knock that 1980 on its ass in 10 years .
I want more than original manuals and boxes although they are nice.

There is one on there that may be justified should you be willing to pay 3600. I’m not .
