Officer Cleared

mulester7

LIVE from Lake Ouachita
Tell me this guy's guardian angel wasn't with him!!!

Hamilton officer cleared in fatal shooting during January traffic stop New Years Eve 2010 in Hamilton - wild - the guy was killed by the cop -

When you see the gun come out of the car you can hear a "click". The guy
stuck a loaded gun in the cops face and pulled the trigger - it fell on an
empty chamber- the cop moved back and the guy fired a round and missed the cop - the cop unloaded his gun and killed the guy. Here it is with sound.

WOW, all I can say is WOW.....thank God the Officer wasnt hurt and this idiot got what was coming to him.............I did enjoy seeing his poof off in the distance when he must have hit a pole or something.

I'm glad the cop was cleared. They shouldn't have to put up with crap like that.

It doesn't take a genius to understand that if you shoot at a cop, he's going to get aggitated - with good reason. It's hard to feel sorry for someone that knuckleheaded.

All I can say is that I'm glad that someone like that got what was due. Anyone that pulls a gun on a cop (read guy he knows will shoot right back) wouldn't hesitate to pull it out on me!

The officer is amazingly under control calling it in, considering he just escaped with his life by an incredibly well-timed bit of luck.

I agree. Your average person would be shaken up and shaking. This guy stays cool and professional -- exactly the kind of guy you want in the police force!

I wonder what the rest of the story was... Why was this vehicle pulled over? Who was the driver, and why did he try to shoot the policeman?

There's three tabs to select at the link provided: Story, Discussion, and Video. Take your pic...;)

Wow, just...wow. That officer was one cool cat to call it in like that. The 'poof' in the background in the end was justice being served.

If you read the article it's a classic, traffic stop/officer involved shooting. Every detail, down to the officer not remembering exactly how many rounds he fired, reminds me of officers I've talked to who've been through similar experiences. Unfortunately, these things often don't end as well as this one did. We lost a NC Highway Patrol officer a couple years back in a nearly identical situation, but in that case the suspect (a fugitive from a homicide warrant) killed the young officer, who left a pregnant wife behind.

Glad the officer in this case survived, and was cleared.

According to the audio, the officer informs the driver that he stopped him because he drove straight through an intersection in a turn only lane. He then asked how much the driver had been drinking. The gun came out shortly after that.

I have a friend who used to be an AZ State cop he did what he thought was a normal traffic stop. As he walked up to the car the driver had a 44 mag revolver tucked down just below the edge of the window. When Bob came even with the window the guy shot the round hitting Bob in the upper right arm taking a 4inch section of the bone out.

It spun Bob around and left him sitting in the oppisite lane. He reached across with his left hand drew his own .44 mag revolver and fired a number of shots entering the bad guy after going through the car door.

Bad guy dead Bob retired minimal use of his right arm. He is now a Custom Knifemaker and owns a small Knifemakers supply business.

Reading the whole article, it sounds like the guy might have had the idea to be shooting somebody else that night, and the officer intervened and the bad guy, already having crossed the 'moral threshold' of deciding to kill somebody, shot at the officer. I'm reading a lot into the article, of course, but there could very well have been some premeditation going on with where the guy was heading with his gun, and the officer might have saved more than his own life.

Thank God that the officer escaped with his life. I hope that he can put the stress and trauma of the incident behind him soon.

Have you thanked a Cop today? If not, how about a simple wave and a smile? They will appreciate the Karma.

I wanna know why this even made it to a jury though. They should have taken one look at the video and said "justified" and not wasted a court or a jury's time..

Seems like the miscreant was on the receiving end of a series of warning shots to the back of the head.
