Oh god... You gotta be an uber geek drunk on the k-aid to even think about this....

I wonder what it would take to get them to let you host a "party"

Hell, for a free copy of Windows 7 I'd invite folks over to drink beer, play music and watch football with a laptop running W7 sitting off in a corner....

But the screeners aren't accepting apps anymore, darn...

FWIW, my neighbor who's an IT pro says W7 really is the good stuff, so I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of folks here wind up with it.

You may change your mind in a few weeks.

+1

I am getting lots of comments from people and customers, "you're saying something nice about Microsoft?"

They got Win 7 right, I now have it loaded on 3 computers plus my netbook replacing XPSP3 on all of them.

and that is the extent of MY launch party :)

I've heard the same, but I definitely will not be "upgrading" until Microsoft stops security updates for XP(2014, I believe). If I buy a new computer between now and then, I'll likely give Win7 a try (unlike for Vista where I deliberately stayed with XP even when Vista was offered). However, installing a Win7 "upgrade" on a fully functional XP machine is inviting trouble IMO. OTOH, if they figure out how to take full advantage of multi-core processors (which I doubt seriously that they have), I may bite.

Yep.. only way I'd go to 7 is if I buy a new computer, and you have no choice that's what's coming on it.. unless I decide i will go with Mac next time...

Some marketing manager at MS is pissing his pants about the 'breakthrough' nature of this idea. All those guys think that everybody in the world spends as much time giving a crap about there product as they do. I really wish I didn't know this to be true.

Yea, whatever... uTorrent and xp corporate. And only until I get around to loading Ubuntu onto one of these machines around here.

Oh god... It gets even worse.. I found the list of what is included in the party pack MS sends you... They're made I tell you... MAD!!!!!

Most of this crap isn't even going up, but here's the full list of junk:
-One limited Signature Edition Windows® 7 Ultimate
-One Deck of Playing Cards with Windows® 7 Desktop Design
-One Puzzle with Windows® 7 Desktop Design
-One Poster with Windows® 7 Desktop Design
-Ten Tote Bags with Windows® 7 Desktop Design for hosts and guests
-One table top centerpiece for decoration
-One package of Windows® 7 napkins

Also included in USA party packs:

-One package of streamers for decoration
-One package of balloons for decoration

Lordy them there kalifonians there in microspot. It's only an efin' computer. Get some fresh air in ya.

Windows 7?? Shouldn't it be 8 or 9 by now? I'm XP at the moment and i plan to stay that way till i can't use it online anymore. This XP machine replaced a Windows 3.1 system back in the fall of 2001. I still have that PC in working order too, just not online anymore :D

Geez, you'd think it was the Super Bowl, or the re-mastered Beatles CD collection, or maybe even Michael Jackson......................

I watched the whole friggin' thing. It was like watching a train wreck -- horrific, but I couldn't take my eyes off it. The pseudo hand-held camera work started getting me seasick. They never once showed the laptop screen.

Awful. Just bloody awful.
