Ohm Model I worth??

the thing is, the Ohm mods will improve them a lot, but they add up in cost very quickly for the "I" because of its driver compliment. i'd love to have a fully modded version, but to make that economical (at least from my POV) the "I" would have to be pretty cheap in the first place.

I paid $500 for my mint pair of I's a year or so ago. I have no desire to do any upgrades to them.
They're very strong in the bass, but require a boatload of power to really make them come alive. And when I say a boatload, I mean a boatload. Ohm claims 1500 watt power handling. I've got mine hooked up to a 200 wpc Kenwood KR9050 at the moment, and they sound great, but could obviously handle a lot more.
I'd say anything from a couple hundred bucks for a pair needing some attention to what I paid (or more) for a very nice set.

There was a guy selling a set in the NYC area a few months back, he was asking $995 firm. His were in perfect shape, good foam, clean grill cloth, etc. I didn't think his asking price was too outrageous considering the rarity of the Model I, coupled with the impressive specs.
Priceless.
They're rare and good sounding speakers with great bass with "out of the box" sound. I don't know what comes through your area but you could try asking what he wants, low ball him or even pay a premium as to what you can afford....caveat, make sure you know all or most od the drivers are functioning.
