OHM Speakers Any Good?

Local CL in Tampa has a pair of OHM FRS-9. Anybody here heard or can comment. They were from the 90's and sold for about 1K. I can have them eor $100. Should I Pass or Go get them?

The company made good speakers. I have a pair of model L's that are built really well. I've found that they seem to prefer a solid state amp to tubes and they are 4 ohm, thus they sounded like crap with my Fisher 400 and they sound great with a Yamaha CR 420 I have.

I think that those might be a Walsh style speaker. I have a pair of FRS 11 and they sound good. Placement is very important with them, you can't have a lot of furniture in between them. OHM has a website and offers lots of info. They will also refurbish them.

They still make good speakers, and provide support for many of their legacy models.

I bought a small subwoofer from them in the early 80s that was quite impressive. I used it for a long time as the bass for a pair of those little metal Infinity monitors with the emit and the dual VC clear poly woofers. Well it was certainly fine for the time. The finish and fit on the Ohm was beautiful in walnut. It came down on hard times when the foam rotted on the woofers but as I recall the drivers were sent to Ohm, and fixed, and good as new. I cannot comment on their whole line but the one I had was great sound and construction.

Ditto on the FRS-11's. Had a pair & like a dummy I sold them a few months back. I remember listening to the at a stereo store in Tallahassee Fl back in the 80's & was blown away. Could not afford them back then.

The FRS-9 are still available on CL Tampa. They look rather nice too!

I just looked at the ad. Go get them, At that price, I'd say that is a steal.

It depends on the condition of the drivers and how much you want to invest in them if the drivers need to be replaced, they are approx 15 years old. I passed on a pair of model 100's because of the cost involved in the restore. TG
