I had one around the mid sixties, and learned to respect the hot plate, and freshly molded plastic items removal temperatures early on while playing with it.
But no serious burns ever happened, or my father would have taken it away from me !

Nice melting plastic fumes stinking up my bedroom while using it, and, IIRC, the replacement plastic sheets were not inexpensive, and cut into my neighborhood lawn mowing income, so I eventually became bored with playing with it.
