Dear all,
I'm looking for an integrated amp (to pair with new Rega Planar 3 Exact), and in my budget range I can choose between a new Rega Brio for around 700 euros, or there is someone living near me selling an older Rega Elicit for around the same price (incl. MM preamp) and that is claimed to be as good as new. It's the first iteration that was launched in 2008, but the current owner is the second owner, and he does not know the exact age. Couple of questions that I could use some advice on:
The owner thinks it's 4 years old, but I don't think it was sold until 4 years ago. The Elicit-R was launched in 2016 as far as I can see. Does anyone know until when the 2008 Elicit was sold?
Is an old Elicit better than a new Brio, or has technology developed/trickled down to the point that the new Brio matches the old Elicit (as well as having the benefit of being new)?
In general, what should I look out for when checking an amp like that, apart from listening for any hums and general sound?
Assuming that it's at least ten years old, should I be worried about how long this thing would still last me, or are these bullet proof?
Overall, given my budget, would you go new Brio or old Elicit, and why?
