I found a slate tile that makes a nice little platform for it. Pop it up on some aluminum cones and voila! I'm not sure if there are any sonic benefits, but it's running cooler now.

Hey Nate what kind of temps are you getting?

The top of the transformer is approximately 30F above room temp and I stuck a probe in the front and it came back 15F about the room temp. It has been running for 4 hours.

Bill, no probe so I'm not sure what kind of temps I'm getting here. The transformer gets warm and the box gets warmer, but I can still keep my hands on it. The 12AX7 gets hot enough that I don't want to hang onto it for any more than a few seconds. :)

The outputs are XSE15-8-5K.

Hi Nate,

Great job! Very clean soldering and layout considering how small of a space you had to work with. I have always enjoyed EL84's....I've got a model 232A, model 500, and an awesome custom job that was inspired by Pilot that SET12 helped me with. All of them are push/pull of course, but I did hear a single ended one, similar to what you have there and it was great.

How do you like the Edcor OPT's? I'm considering buying a WE421 homebrew amp that is being offered with some Edcors, but am wondering if I should have him put in Magnequests instead. Don't know if it would be worth the extra couple hundred bucks or not.

Anyhow keep up the great work. It's always fun seeing what you guys are up to.

I like the Edcors quite a bit and I don't think they're lacking much. Of course, I don't have an awful lot to compare them to. Depending on which Edcor outputs the amp you're considering has, you might want to just start with them and listen for a while, and upgrade later if you feel it necessary. This amp was a budget build, but the sound belies that. My opinion, of course. :)
