Power cord cut off on the 70A. I'd be very afraid that the power transformer is shorted - the 70A is somewhat notorious for bad PTs.
There's a little bit of melted potting wax, but that might just be from the potting process. They all dripped a bit before they cooled.

Hard to get more "collectible" Fisher gear than the units the man himself owned and listened to... that would be like owning Saul Marantz's home gear, or James B Lansing's speakers, but no doubt there will be a steep premium for that provenance, putting these out of reach of most "mortal" collectors. Stuff like this makes me wish I'd won a big lottery... but I haven't (yet! 
) so I'll just sit back and watch and dream... sigh!...

Actually, the 70-A didn't go for crazy money - not as high as I thought it would, anyway. $300-ish I believe.
As for the clock, would an early 50's clock have fiberboard gears? He says it keeps time well. I do know which club it hung in, but discretion is the better part of valor....
The very real possibility of a smoked PT probably held the price down.

From the physical condition of the preamp, it seems my father brought the Preamp Home and put it on the Shelf.
This preamp was probably from the last production run in the Late 1960's
The preamp was powered up, and all the lamps and tubes came on.
It can be assumed that the Preamp unit will have to be checked over and serviced by a qualified technician.
Reprint copies of both the operating & Service Manuals manuals are included.
A Certificate of Authenticity that the unit is from my Father's Collection, will be included on my Stationary.
It will include the Model and Serial Number, signed and dated by me (Charles Avery Fisher).
