Bought this turntable yesterday. It powered up and quartz lock is giving me 33 1/3 nicely. Auto play wasn't working (play light flashing) and the tonearm was wee a bit stiff. Pulled off the bottom cover and cleaned things up .
The tonearm gear lube had turned to honey, so, I scrubbed it out with iso and lubricated with white lithium grease. Put it back together and tested it out.
When I hit play, the tonearm slaps toward to the right, like its finishing a return cycle and doesn't move into start position, (play light flashing). If I give it a little nudge, it will move into proper start position, but not drop all the way. It seems like its having trouble, “getting over the hump”, of the tonearm slide bar. When it tries to move out to start position, it bumps up against it and moves back to the return position.
The drive motor seems to be working fine and all the gears are in great shape. I tried the reset procedure, where you run the play cycle with the arm locked down, no joy. I'm scratching my head here. Are there adjustments somewhere that I can fiddle with?
There is almost no information for this model on the net and the service manual is, mainly, schematics and parts lists, etc.
Thanks for any help
**update**
I think I figure out the stylus height issue. Looks like the stock, very thick, Mat was replaced with a super thin mat. Put in a thicker mat and the stylus now drops on the record. However, I have now found a new problem. The tonearm doesn't move. Just sits in the same spot as it plays. I am afraid to remove the tonearm assembly from the top,for fear it will really mess things up. I'd like to service it from beneath, if possible.
