Onkyo Receiver Reliability

Has anyone had any Onkyo receivers fail after being repaired? I have a TX-NR616 that failed. These models are apparently notorious for the HDMI board dying which takes out all channels. Onkyo was very accommodating and paid for the service and shipping both ways. No complaints about the service experience as it was all easy and seamless.

Since the warranty ends in December 2018, I want it to last now as warranty repair will no longer be an option. The supposed failure is overheating BGA chips on the hdmi board. My plan is to put heatsinks on the hdmi board bga chips and an additional fan.

I placed heat sinks on my older TX-NR906 and my Pioneer SC-67... Neither of them suffered from failures while i had them. Both models were known for heat related issues on their HDMI boards

This is making me feel better. All I have done with it so far is make sure it works. I've been refraining from using it until I have a cooling solution setup.

I use these fans on my TX-NR1007 which is still going strong after 8+ years and thousands of hours of use.

I got the heatsinks today. They all fit well. I need to find a good sized fan next. There is a 12v plug on the board that I will plug the fan into. It turns on and off with the unit.
